ECD 102 Developmental Domains Theory to Practice

In this assignment, you are asked to focus on using your knowledge of child development and learning, appropriate observation, documentation and
assessment to create learning experiences that are supportive and challenging.
You will:
research developmental domains - social/emotional, physical (gross motor and fine motor) language/cognitive, for three age groups, 0-12
months, 12-24 months, and 24-36 months

create a resource page for each age group and domain ( 3 pages per age group) explaining developmental milestones, childrens characteristic
and needs, potential influences on growth and learning, characteristics of the learning environment and roles the teacher plays in promoting a
healthy, supportive, respectful and challenging environments. Include a representative picture for the age and domains. Cite essentials of
development theory and research related to the age or developmental domain. Reference at least three professional references APA style.

observe a child from 4 age groups, take objective notes, assess the childs development and learning related to research, and plan
appropriate experiences to meet the needs of the individual child. Reflect on what you are learning from conducting the observations and the
implications for your work with young children.

NAEYC Standards Assessed

Standard 1: Students are able to use their (1a) knowledge and understanding of young childrens characteristics and needs, (1b) and of
multiple influences on childrens development and learning, (1c) to create environments that are healthy, supportive, respectful, and
challenging
Standard 3: (3a) Students understand the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment, (3b) know about and use observation, documentation,
and assessment tools and approaches, (3c) to practice responsible assessment to promote positive outcomes
Standard 4: Students are able to use their (4b) knowledge and understanding of effective strategies and tools for early education and
(4d) reflect on their own practice to promote positive outcomes for each child
Supportive Skills: (3) Written and Verbal Communication and (5) Skills in Identifying and Using Professional Resources

addressed

Five or more influences impacting

domain development include an
explanation of how each will
positively or negatively impact
specific domain development
Five or more descriptors of the
characteristics of the learning
environment specific to the domains
are explained. Appropriate, domain
specific learning materials are
included.
