Brochure
Description: A two-sided (duplex) folding brochure.
Date: March 27, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To design a full-color, folding brochure to promote a company
product or service.
Process: The logo was created using the shape tool in Adobe Illustrator and
the elements were grouped together using the grouping tool. It was further
edited in Photoshop for use in the brochure. The layout of the brochure was
created using Adobe InDesign. It was designed as a duplex folding brochure
with an offset element. I color matched the background of the brochure with
the logo, lightening the opacity to make a softer, more readable brochure.
The photos were collected from personal images as well as provided from
missionaries whom I served with. These were resized for the offset as well as
edited for use within the brochure.

Web page
Description: To demonstrate knowledge and skills of using html and css to
create a webpage.
Date: March 12, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To provide a company an example of work by displaying a
design and its creation process on a web page.
Process: The process began by using a template provided to learn the skills
necessary to code HTML for readability. The code editing application used
was TextWrangler. After effectively editing the HTML file, a provided CSS
template was attached to the HTML file. The CSS template was further edited
by changing the codes for color and font. Elements were added to create a
more original page. Color codes were found by using the eyedropper tool in
Photoshop. Fonts were found by using:
http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_websafe_fonts.asp).

Logos
Description: Logo for an organization
Date: February 20, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To create an effective logo design for a new company.
Process: I begun the process by creating three differing logo designs in Adobe
Illustrator. After printing the designs, I asked students on campus for their vote
on a design. The duck design won. I then created three varying versions of this
design by changing the color to grayscale on one, and changing the other to
white on colored background.

Montage
Description: An inspirational montage created by blending two or more images
and using typography.
Date: February 14, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To create a spiritual poster montage.
Process: After selecting the images to use in this montage, and loading them
into Photoshop, I cropped the background image of clouds to 8.5 x 11 and
added a mask. Using the lasso tool, I cropped the image of Christ lifting up
the little girl and inserted it with the background image, adding a mask after
it was inserted. I used the soft brush tool with black paint on 100% opacity to
smooth away hard edges and better blend it into the background. I
repeated the process with the image of the water and birds, though the bird
image was placed onto the background without cropping. Type was added
using the type tool, with two varying fonts.

Letterhead
Description: A letterhead design for a design company.
Date: February 27, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To create a new logo design and stationary for a company.
Process: This letterhead design was created using the shape tool in Adobe
InDesign. Three varying circles were used to create a thought-bubble style in
the logo, leading up to the contact information of a company representative. I
ensured there was enough spacing along the boarders to create a clean and
simple design.

Business Card
Description: A simple business card for use of promoting design services.
Date: February 27, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To create a new logo design and business card for a company.
Process: The business card was created using the shape tool in Adobe
InDesign. I created a standard business card shape of 3.5 inch by 2 inch using
the shape tool. I used the eyedropper tool to change the color of the logo for
the front of the business card. Text was added using the text tool, using Morva
as the logo font and Caviar Dreams as the body copy font.

Photodesign
Description: Demonstrate good photography and editing skills. Incorporating
color into a poster layout including original photo.
Date: February 7, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To provide a sample of work to a hiring company who is looking for
an employee that is familiar with photography and Photoshop.
Process: I formulated a plan to incorporate a color scheme for my layout, which
was split complementary. I then took a photo on the BYU-I campus that would
incorporate this color scheme. I used a Canon SX40HS camera for this photo,
and edited the photo in Photoshop to add clarity and brightness. I then
designed an 8.5 x 11 layout that included my photo, the color scheme (red,
green and blue), text, and other varying elements. I used the eye dropper tool
to capture the exact colors of the photo and incorporated them into the
background and additional elements of the design.

Flier
Description: A black & white promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership
conference.
Date: January 24, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To create a flier for a leadership conference using Adobe InDesign.
Process: I started by creating sketches of my layout. I used these sketches as a
guide to create this layout in Adobe InDesign. I begun by using boxes of
different sizes and shades to create the general layout. I used black boxes with
black lines across the page as repetition. I left white space and ensured the
text was appropriately spaced out for easy reading. I was given the image,
logo and content for this flier.

Event Ad
Description: A full-bleed color event ad using Microsoft Word and a scanner.
Date: January 31, 2016
Course/Instructor: Visual Media- Nicole Nugent
Objective: To create an event ad to assist a local company in advertising for
a benefit event.
Process: I scanned the image and used Microsoft Word to create an event flyer
ad for a local fundraiser. The image that was scanned was large enough to
cover the entire page. The image held a contrast leading from a dark navy to
a lighter pink, and was further contrasted by the white space outlined by the
shadows of the people in the image. The hidden design features in Microsoft
Word made for an easy compilation for the flyer.
