CARRICK

To Create the I used both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.

I used Illustrator to create both my logos and my little icons. What
was nice about creating these things in Illustrator is that they were
easy to edit. Along the way I ended up changing the colors of
a few things but I was able to just go into Illustrator, change the
colors, and refresh everything in InDesign. In InDesign I came
up with the main layout for everything. First I created my letter
head. After I created my letterhead I opened up a document to
create my business cards. When I made my business cards I knew
I wanted my letter head and my business card to be very similar
so that with just a glance somebody could guess they are the same
company. I repeated shapes and the icons to achieve that affect. I
also used the same monochromatic color scheme.
Coordinating letterhead can be found on the next page.

Caramels tootsie roll danish powder candy donut.

PROCESS
To start out I made a lot of sketches. This was important because
I needed to understand how the pages would fold and how to
structure my InDesign file. Second I picked colors and then I
created a logo in Illustrator. After that I began with my InDesign
file. I set up ruler guides and made my file look like my sketches. I
put in some place holder text and then got feedback from friends.
After that I wrote my body copy. I also found an image of me and
a friend in high school to cut out. My friend is holding a yearbook,
so I Photoshopped a picture of the visual media text book. After
that I got a little more feedback, and made my finishing touches.
To print it I printed it at the school on nice paper and I printed
it double sided. I used a cutting board I have at home to cut and
score my brochure.

OBJECTIVES
Learn basic photography skills.
Choose a color scheme, take a
photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the
layout.
Use a digital camera to take a
quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation,
color balance, sharpen tool on
separate layers for NDE (nondestructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then
place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and
repeating graphic elements in
Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins.

PROCESS
First I took a bunch of photos. I had no idea what I wanted to do
for the project. I wasnt sure what I wanted my subject to be or my
color scheme. So after taking photos I sifted through them to see
which ones I liked and which ones were composed well. I picked
this one because I liked the subject and I thought I did a good
job with composition, light, and focus. After picking the photo
I looked at the colors in the photo and picked a color scheme.
My long board was originally pink, which is a shade of red. In
Photoshop I changed it to a brighter red so that my color scheme
was more cohesive and bright. After I picked my colors and photo
I did some sketches and then started implementing changes in
Photoshop. I put the layout together and also edited the photo.
I edited the vibrancy and saturation, the levels, changed a few
colors using selective color, and lastly I sharpened a few areas of
the image. After having a few people look at my finished product
I found some things I needed to change. I played around with the
layout some more and finally arrived at my final product.

Leadership Conference

DATE
January 2016

This is a promotional flier for a graduate leadership conference

put on by Vouant Communications.

PROCESS
I started out by looking at the requirements of the projects and
trying to understand the message and the audience. Once I
understood who I was targeting and what I wanted to portray
I made a few sketches. Upon picking my favorite layout I put it
together in InDesign. I tried to make an effective and professional
design. I printed my design out and showed it to a friend in the
class and my teacher. We were able to find some good things in the
design and identify some weak points. Based on what we talked
about I was able to make my design better and more effective.
One thing I worked on after talking to others about my draft was
the flow. Before my design trapped the viewers eye at the top, now
the viewers eye goes down the page to read the information.

LOGO DESIGN
DESCRIPTION

PROGRAMS USED
Adobe Illustrator

To begin I started with word lists and sketches. I tried to think of

things that represented web design, web development, and me.
Once I had a few ideas I started sketching to express those ideas.
Once I had at least 3 I liked I brought them into Illustrator. Once
my three drafts were done I gathered opinions from others. I asked
at least 10 people which one they liked the best. After determining
which one was the best I decided to refine it and make it better
based on feedback. Some of the feedback was that my design was
very simple and not very unique, so I decided to incorporate the
second favorite logo and make my logo a little more creative and
unique. After my logo was refined, I created it in two different
color schemes (monochromatic and complementary), as well as
black and white.

A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.

PROGRAMS USED
Brackets for writing HTML and
CSS
OBJECTIVES
Size and optimize an original
logo as a .png for a web page so
the long side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the
process of creating your logo
and how it appeals to a target
audience.
Acquire a working knowledge of
HTML.
Acquire a working knowledge of
CSS.
Identify hex colors to match logo,
using Photoshop color picker.

PROCESS
I created this web page using only Brackets. I am mostly in web
development classes right now, so it was fun to be able to refresh
my memory on basic HTML and CSS.
I used a web page template to start from which had an HTML
and a CSS page. I used colors from my logo to choose the colors
for my website. I found these colors by opening my logo in
Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. Another thing I did was
implement similar fonts. For my initials in my logo I used the font
Sacramento, so to keep the theme the same I used the same font
for my heading. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the exact same
font I used for my logo in the website so I found another thin sansserif font that looked similar to it. I used back-up fonts just in case
there is a problem with the fonts I chose.

PROCESS

First, I did some brainstorming and sketching. I thought of

different events I could have and all the details that would be
associated with that event. Once i picked one I did a couple
sketches and got to work. After sketching I picked font categories
and gave myself three color scheme options to play with. I
scanned my photo and deleted the background using a tool
in Microsoft word. Afterwards I added text boxes and put the
information I needed on the poster. Once all of the information
was in I formatted it. I picked my fonts and made the text different
sizes to suit its function and I made sure everything was aligned
the way I wanted it to be. The last thing I did was play with color.
I had a few options for color schemes and I picked the one that
worked the best. After my draft critique there were some color
edits to make sure my event ad was giving the message I intended.
