Control the Visibility of Host Layers in a

Wall

VisibilityGraphicsOverrides
ThegoodthingaboutRevitisthatawallcanhavemorethanonelayer.Takethebelowwallforexampleitsmade
upof102mmbrick,50mmairlayer,35insulation,140mmblockworkand12plasterboardfinishes.

If you going into the Visibility Graphics by typing VG or going to View (Ribbon) Graphics (Tab) Visibility
Graphics.NowexpandtheWallrow,youwillseethatsomeofcellsaregreyedoutbutsomearent.

TheviewwearecurrentlylookingatiscuttingthroughthewallsoifyougoacrossunderWallsandOverrideCut
LinestosayBlue,youshouldseethattheoutlineofthewallturnsBlue.DothesamefortheCommonEdgesbut
chooseRed.

Click OK to close Line Graphics dialog box then click Apply to view your changes, and click OK to exit the
Visibility/Graphicsdialog.Yourwallshouldlooksimilartowhatsshowninthebelowimage.

Note:Youcouldalsooverridethelineweightandpatternofthewalllinesandcommonedges.Asshowninbelow
imagethelineweightissetto3andthepatternisHidden.

OverrideHostLayers

ItsagoodideatocreateaViewTemplatesoyoucanapplyittoanyviewsyouwishittobeapplied.Socreatea
newviewtemplate,asitsforawallonplanIhavecalledmineWallsonPlan.

ClickinV/GOverridesModeltobringupyourVisibilityGraphicsOverridesEditbox.

WhentheV/GoverridesdialogboxisonscreenticktheCutLineStylesboxandthenclickontheEditbox.As
shownbelow.

Usingoverrides,youcancontrolthevisibilityofcutedgesinhostlayersinplanandsectionviews.Thisallowsyou
toassignlineweight,linecolourandlinepatterntoeachlayerofthewall,suchasStructure[1],Substrate[2],
Thermal/Air[3],Finish1[4],andFinish2[5].

Youcanalsoselectfromthefollowingcorelayercleanupoptions:

Default.Thisisthecurrentbehaviour.
UseFunction.Ignoresthematerialsettings(thelineisneverinvisible)andsetsthestyleoftheseparating
linebasedonthelayers'functionalpriorities.Thestyleofaseparatinglineisdeterminedbythelayerwith
thehigherfunctionalpriority.
UseCommonEdgeStyle.Ignoresthefunctionalprioritiesandmaterialsettings,andalwaysusesthe
commonedgestyle.
NoEdge.Setstheseparatinglinetoinvisiblewheneverthelayershavethesamefillpattern.

Thelinestylesthatyouassigntothehoststructureareviewspecific;theyarevisibleonlyintheviewinwhich
youcreatethem.Theoverridesareappliedtothecutedgesofallhostsintheview.

Youcanalsoapplytheseoverridestoroofs,floors,andceilings.
