SKILLED COMMUNICATOR

WHY IS THIS AN IMPORTANT TRAIT?

Being a skilled communicator is important for all students. This is important because without
communication we will not be able to achieve anything. Communicating is an essential trait that
everyone needs to have to survive in the world. Without communication the ideas that we want
to present will not be clear to others. Communicating is a way for us to be able to say what we
want and how we want it done.

HOW DO YOU DEMONSTRATE THIS TRAIT IN YOUR DAILY

LIFE?
I do my best everyday to use listening and speaking skills in both my personal and professional
life. When I am having a conversation with a person I listen to what they have to say first then I
state my opinion. I do this because I have to acknowledge the other opinion that may be valid
information to bring my thoughts together. I am able to have a clear understanding on where they
are and they know where I stand.

HOW DOES THIS SAMPLE YOU'VE PROVIDED SHOW THAT

YOU ACTIVELY DEMONSTRATE THIS TRAIT?
The essay shows how I am a skilled communicator because I had to formulate my stance on what
the prompt asked. I was able to express how the author used symbolism to convey one's
self-realization. I also asked my peers to revise my essay in order to receive feedback from them.

I was able to listen to what they had to say; I was able to make changes according to the input
they gave me.

A Brand New World

Throughout one's life, one tries to find themselves. In Demian by Hermann Hesse, Emil shares
his

journey starting from when he first realizes the two realms all the way through his rebirth. Hesse

utilizes symbolism to convey Emil's journey to selGre alization.

light realm as "love and strictness, model behavior and school" (Pg.5). This realm represents the

The next symbol employed by Hesse is the lie. The lie symbolizes the dark realm, which
"containQd servant girls and workmen, ghost stories, rumors of scandal" (Pg.6).The lie is used in Emil's
audacious "tale of robberies" (Pg.60) to impress Kromer. In Emil's tale, he altruistigllly "filled the role
