Letterhead
Description: Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally
created logo for my fathers business.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator &InDesign.

Date: February 27, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: I wanted to create a letter head for my father business. I wanted to
have this logo and letterhead come off as chrsip clean and easy to read.

Process: I first began in Abode Illustrator making different logos. I could not find
one that I liked for a while. I made a circle using the circle tool. I then just made some
likes to break up the circle into different shapes. Then it hit my I really liked this design.
I then choose a good color scheme to match my father company. I needed a color that
matched, trustworthy, clean, true and easy to understand.
Next I created the letter head in InDesign. I placed my logo in the top left of the design
and added a blue box at the top to lead the viewer to the info. I then added a blank
logo with no text at the bottom. I also added a blue box leading to the left so it looks
professional and matches. I played with a water color but I did not like it.

Objectives: To create a new logo and bussiness card for my fathers business
Process: I first began in Abode Illustrator making different logos. I could not find
one that I liked for a while. I made a circle using the circle tool. I then just made some
likes to break up the circle into different shapes. Then it hit my I really liked this design.
I then choose a good color scheme to match my father company. I needed a color
that matched, trustworthy, clean, true and easy to understand. I then went into Adobe
InDesign and made a rectangle that was 3.5x2 and placed my logo that I had made
into it. I then choose a good font that would help match the design and message of
the company. I then increased the font size. Next I added the info my fathers company
needs such as email, numbers etc. I played around with the layout but after a while I
really liked what I had made.

Event Add
Description: A creative event ad to promote a upcoming fundraiser using only
Microsoft word and a scanner.

Programs: Microsoft Word

Date: January 30, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: I wanted to look like a fundraiser. But not just any fundraiser, this
huge event that only happens once a year is back and you dont want to miss it. I
wanted my audience to appeal to everyone but having a major focus on basketball
players.

Process: I used a scanner to scan the image of Kevin Love and the basketball
court. However on the left of the image was some writing that I didnt want. So I had
to crop it out which left me with a major gap on the right. After thinking about it I
decided to use that gap space as my title and sub title. I was wondered about this at
first but with the basketball kind of jumping out at you it works as a focus point. Then
you follow down Kevins arm which also flows the same way the tittle and sub tittle do.
To make the tittle I just used a simple text box and put no fill. I then used two orange
text boxes with color that complemented the blue of the background. To make the
back ground blue I just used a big rectangle and sent it to the back of the design.

Photo Design
Description: To show good photography and image editing skills. Also adding a
good color into the poster layout with the original photo.

Programs: Adobe Photoshop

Date: February 6, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: I wanted to make a appealing poster that would lead people to find if
they had old sports gear then to get rid of it. I felt that a warm blue color would look and
seem inviting.

Process: First I made a plan of what I was going to do. I was thinking about what
message I wanted to send as well as what color scheme would work well with the
message and overall design. After looking at the Visual FOCUS book I came up with
a analogous color scheme. Next I went to the BYU-Idaho library and used one of there
camera and went to capture more high quality photo with good lighting, sharp focus
and nice composition. I got the sports gear from my own personal collection. Then I
used basic Photoshop edits such as color balance, levels, sharpness and saturation.
One of the problems was getting some green colors to look white. Next I began to use
colors from the color wheel as my swatches to match with the colors of my image. I
used the ellipses tool with a drag to create my lines. Then I used a basic rectangle tool
to create my boxes. I used a fade on my text box to add to the old feeling.

Brochure
Description: A two sided one folding

brochure

Programs: Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/ Adobe Photoshop

Date: March 26, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: I wanted to inform people about a basketball camp for there youth. The
camp is not real however the design could be for a real basketball camp.

Process: I began with making my logo in Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to make a

basketball but in a creative way. I looked online for inspiration and came up with this
design. I am really happy about the way it came out. I just make a circle and used lines. I
then adjusted the thickness on one side to make it seem like the ball was moving.
I then used InDesign to make my brochure. I made two pages and broke then up using
the margin guides. I then labeled the pages that I wanted so I didnt forget what the front
was and what the back was. I then used the design of my logo for the inside. I really
liked the idea of making the inside look like a basketball. I then put in make up text to
see how it would all look. I then found some picture online of kids at a basketball camp.
Next I pasted the pictures into my design. I grabbed one picture and moved it over to
Adobe Photoshop. I then used the quick selection tool and grabbed just the boy. I then
made the edges look smooth and more natural. I then moved that over to the back of
my design. I then used the text wrap tool to wrap some text around the boy.
I then wrote my text out in word and copied it over to the make up text and replaced
with the real text. I then make some shapes with the color that I wanted and moved
them into the inside of the design, so it looked more like a basketball.

Flier
Description: A black and hite promotional flier to promote

the Graduate

Leadership Conference.

Programs: Adobe InDesign

Date: January 23, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: I was trying to focus on recent graduates, who would like to have an
advantage in becoming leaders, informing them that this conference would help them.

Process: First I made some sketches with pencil and paper. Then I choose one that
I liked and made the layout in Adobe InDesign. I used the white font on a black box for
contrast with the fading gray box to lead with flow. I was given the text, picture, and
logo for this flier.

Logos
Description: A logo for a made up organization
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: Febuary 20, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: To create a logo for this elite gym for athletes and people who want to
prove there skill while becoming bigger, faster and stronger.

Process: This process was really fun because we were given the freedom to crate
any design we wanted in Adobe Illustrator. After trying a number of drafts and playing
around with different designs I took a vote on which design was best. I choose the one
with the most votes and made a few changes to the design that I felt was needed. I
moved the logo around and added a thicker stroke. I also played with the typography
and made the font size smaller as it goes down, just like the bolt. I made the bolt by
drawing it with the pen tool. Then made multiple copys and added it to the end of the
the sports text. Overall it was really fun to create this logo.

Montage
Description: An inspirational montage made by blending the photo of Jesus with
the picture of the hills and the use of typography.

Programs: Adobe Photoshop

Date: March 31, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: I wanted to convey that although the road ahead may be hard we
shouldnt give up. The path is hard but Jesus is there watching us and rooting for us to
make it back to him.

Process: I found the mountains and hills on the internet and cropped the background
of the image to 8.5 x 11. I found a good photo of Jesus I liked and dragged him into
the image. I then used the opacity soft edge brush tool to paint away the hard egdes.
I started with 100% then went to 30%, 20% then 10%. I did it this way so there is a
natural flow and transition. Next, I found some nice fonts on dafont.com and installed
them to my computer. I used the text tool to lay down the text where I wanted it and I
played around with the color until I was able to find some colors that stood out of the
mountains. Then I used the sharpen tool to sharpen the trees and hills of the picture to
bring then out more. I also used the saturation tools to make the colors more vibrant

Webpage
Description: A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.
Programs: TextWrangler & Photoshop.
Date: March 11, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130, Section 2
Instructor: Ben Pingel
Objectives: To show case a logo that I had created for my father business. This
shows how I made the logo anmy thoughts to how I made it.

Process: I created this webpage using only the TextWrangler app. I had never seen
or written anything in HTML/CSS before this project. I found things rather interesting
that I could create a whole webpage only writing in code. I also used the internet and
and assistants in the BYU-Idaho Mac lab for help in creating this webpage.
After I made all my content and inserted my image in the HTML file, I attached this to a
pre-made CSS document. I then used the colors from my logo to match the colors on
my webpage. I then played with the typography to create a font that would relate and
go well with my logo and design. I found these colors by going on to my WordPress and
finding the logo I had made, Inspected the elements and then used the I dropper to find
the code/color number. I used google fonts for my fonts. After I created my webpage
I took a screen shot and put it into Abode Photo shop to make a jpeg to upload onto
WordPress.
