Safety

Realigning short term milestones with a clear long term vision

increases the chance of success
Continuous innovation is needed to stay in the driving seat when the
full potential of the trend unfolds
Cooperation between different types of actors from different
industries drives success

Drivers and Obstacles

Privacy and data security are a key concern among customers which
dampens market adoption.
Embedded (wireless) communication technology is a key driver, but
its absence limits the market for connected cars
Market adoption of more advanced connected car applications
requires large-scale investments in infrastructure.

Legislation and regulation require further attention from

policymakers
A common understanding of the connected cars value chain still
needs to be developed

So Connected Cars
A disruptive technology
will change traditional auto industry structures,
will usher in new business models

The car as a bundle of services, rather than a

package of hardware.
Stakeholders will need to cooperate in order to
enable the business to thrive
(auto makers, auto suppliers, technology companies,
telecom companies, startups)
