ADD ON ACES
By Doug Edwards
This Ace Assembly was used by Richard Cardini in his close up performances. It has now
become a classic handling and probably one of the first effects utilizing the Fred Braue Add On
Move. Fred himself referred to this maneuver as his 'Braue Addition.' Everything transpires
openly and directly and is done with a regular deck of cards. In the interest of good theatre,
suspense is built as each ace vanishes from its respective packet.
Ace Display & Setup
Openly remove the four Aces from the deck and display them, spread apart in the left hand.
The right hand holds the deck, backs up.
As you display the Aces, the right thumb pushes across the top of the deck, spreading the top
three cards to the left, just enough to secure a break below the third card using the fourth
finger tip.
The thumb and fingers pull in the three cards above the break to square the deck. This is done
in a fraction of a second as the right hand moves slightly back and forth and the attention is on
the Aces in the left hand.
Add On & Flip Over
Place the Aces face up on top of the deck. Square the deck and immediately pick up all seven
cards above the break. (The four face up Aces with three indifferent face down backs below
them.)
Holding the seven card stock squared in the left hand between the thumb and second finger
tips, bring the stock over to the deck so the right thumb can be placed on the top card and pull
it to the right off the stock and onto the top of the deck. When the face up card is about two
thirds of the way off the stock and on to the top of the deck, the left hand raises the stock up
flipping the pulled out Ace over so it lands face down to top of the deck.

This pull off and flip over action is repeated with the second Ace and the third Ace. The
remainder of the stock in the left hand, which now consists of a face up Ace with three
indifferent cards under it is simply and neatly placed on top of the deck. Now the right thumb
pushes the top Ace slightly off the deck, the left fingers come up and flip the Ace over so it is
now face down on top of the deck.
Pick up the third pile. Show the third Ace has vanished by dealing the top three cards face up
onto the table. Then turn the right hand over and with your thumb on the top edge of the card
push this indifferent card through the loosely closed fist. The third Ace has vanished.

The effect created that you're making the Aces disappear one at a time. So after an Ace has
vanished from each of the first three piles, it is more of a surprise that the last Ace doesn't
vanish, but instead the other three Aces have joined it.
