Summary of Technology
In this unit, technology is incorporated into almost every lesson to enhance
instruction.This unit was designed for a classroom that had a Promethean Board, document
camera, microphone, and iPads and Google chromebooks that were available to be checked out
for the students. However, since the Chromebooks are not available at all times, this limited the
amount of technology that the students could use because it was not always available to be
checked out. Throughout the unit, students are listen to songs, interacting with the Promethean
board, do individual and group research on websites, and watching videos. The main use of
technology that is used throughout the unit are the powerpoints that are used during every lesson
to engage students and organize the content. The powerpoints were created for each days lesson
in order to keep the instructor on track and to meet the learning needs of visual learners. The
Promethean board will be used to project the powerpoint. The document camera is often used
throughout this unit to project rubrics on the screen for students to be aware of how they are
being graded and to go over the instructions for an assessment. It is also used to project graphic
organizers and go over the answers on some of the assessments.
One of the biggest areas of technology utilization is the Google Slides presentation
advertising for their city of Vestavia Hills. This is the assessment for the lesson on local
government. The Google slides presentation is a lesson that spans over a 2-3 day period. The first
day students worked in groups to fill out a worksheet about Vestavia Hills by researching on the
Vestavia Hills website using their iPads. This gave them valuable experience researching on the
web. The next day the students used some of this information that they had collected on Vestavia
Hills, along with their own knowledge, creativity, and thought to create their own Vestavia Hills

advertisement in Google Slides. The students have 2 class periods to work on this assignment to
give them adequate time to work on it. The students will use a Google chromebook to complete
this assignment. They will do this on their own and be responsible for finding pictures on the
web and copying them into their presentation. This assignment has them researching on the web
to find the correct information, compiling this information, and then creating a project using
technology. This project/assignment combines multiple technology skills that a 4th grader should
have while incorporating writing, researching, compiling information, and creativity/thought.
One portion of technology that is not directly included in the lesson plans in the Alabama
Government Jeopardy game. This jeopardy game will serve as a comprehensive review of what
will be covered on the end of the unit, summative test. The students will play this jeopardy game
the day before the test to review for the test. This jeopardy will be created by the teacher and
directly aligned to the test. Another portion of the technology incorporated in this unit is the
classroom website that the teacher already has set up with the class designed for this unit. The
classroom website will motivate and engage students in the learning outside the classroom.
Students will be able to access all powerpoints from their computer at home. This will enhance
their learning in a multiple of ways. If students miss school they can look through the material
they missed or review the material at home if they are having a hard time with a certain concept.
The website also allows the teacher the ability to post instructions for an assignment and finish it
at home. It also gives students access to any resources the teachers posts. The website will also
be a place that the teacher can post the answer key to the review guide so that students can study
at home. The teacher will also upload the Review Jeopardy game that the students will play in
class the day before the test. This Jeopardy game will be posted on the website so that students

can go over it as a way to review for the test. All of these technology portions will increase
academic achievement and depth in understanding for all students.
The technology use throughout the unit meet the needs of auditory, visual, hands-on, and
kinesthetic learners by allowing students to watch, listen, and create things in a digital
environment and give them hands-on learning experiences that pencil and paper activities
cannot.

Alabama Executive Branch. They will research given the
website provided on the sheet and then make a Google slides

presentation to share with the class.
