Students will be provided with research links, this will
benefit lower level students as they will be able to find
useful, accurate information faster and have more time
to analyse and comprehend the information.
Any ASD students should be sitting near the
teacher/with a friend, for help with their work.

Motivation and Introduction:


Ask the students what they know about the ANZAC tradition, creating a class
word cloud through Tagxedo. This will show what students understand about
the ANZACs

This will be displayed on the board for the students to see.


Students open up WebQuest, instalment 2.
Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

Read student instructions for the first task, explaining what they need to do in
the lesson, explaining where to find the content in the WebQuest

15 min

Ask students to discuss in small groups:


o What is a national identity?
o when they think of the spirit of the ANZAC what comes to
mind?
Discuss their answers with the class

10 min

Students will research different perspectives of the ANZAC legend e.g.


soldiers, women, people from past and present (links will be provided), and
how it has become a part of Australias identity as a nation. Students can also
use Britannica to find images.

15 min

Students will write a journal entry from the perspective of a soldier or


someone close to a soldier (e.g. wife), demonstrating how they believe the
people at the time would feel being at/having a loved one at war.
Students will place this on the google doc they created last lesson for
reviewing by the teacher.
Extension task:
Use photoshop (if they are capable) or PhotoFunia to create an image of

and how they personally interpret the war/ANZACs through the journal.
