astrongmilitaryandreadytouseit.InthistimeBritainisthetopdogformilitary
becausetheyhavemanyresourcestopayforthemandtheyhavethebiggestarmyinthe
world.Germanyalsoplaysaroleinthetopmilitarygame,thatisareasonwhyGermany
andtheBritswenttowar,withMilitarismGermanywantedtoexpandandtheyusedtheir
armytohelpthem.Alliancearepeoplethatareyourfriendsthathelpyouinwar.There
weretwomainalliancegroupstheTripleAllianceandtheTripleEntente.TheTriple
AllianceconsistedofGermany,AustriaHungary,andItaly.TheTripleEntenteconsisted
ofBritain,France,andRussia(laterinthewarUSwilljoin.)AreasonwhyRussiagot
pulledintothewarisbecauseofthealliance.Imperialismis
apolicyofextendinga
country'spowerandinfluencethroughdiplomacyormilitaryforce.Thiscausewillbe
anotherreasonofwhyGermanywantedtogotowar.FinallythereisNationalism,
nationalismiswhere
thestrongbeliefthattheinterestsofaparticularnationstateareof
primaryimportance.Allcountrieshadnationalismasareasontogetinvolvedbecause
eachcountrywantedtoprovesomethingtoGermany.June28th1914,ArchdukeFranz
FerdinandofAustriaFerdinandofAustriaHrungarywasassassinated
Assassinatedby
aSerbiannationalist,nationalist,PrincipPrincip(amemberofTheBlackHand,agroup
thatpromotedSerbianpromotedSerbiannationalism).Theassassinationplayedakey
roleinEuropebecauseitbroughtoutnationalisminallthecountriesanditinfluenced
someofthemtogotowar.

2. TheRussianRevolutionisthecollectivetermforaseriesofrevolutionsinRussiain
1917,whichdestroyedtheTsaristautocracyandledtothecreationoftheSovietUnion.
TheRussianrevolutionwasinvolvedinthecollapseofanempireunderTsarNicholasII
andtheriseofMarxiansocialismunderLeninandhisBolsheviks.Itsparkedthe
beginningofanewerainRussiathathadeffectsoncountriesaroundtheworld.Because
oftheirrevolutiontheRussiansturnedintotheSovietUnion.Russiawouldsooninvade
Germanyandbringitdown.WiththatdefeatitinfluencedGermanytosurrender.

3. TheVersaillesTreatywasthetreatythatbroughtpeacebacktotheworldafterWorld
WarI.Thewayitbroughtpolitical,economicandmilitaryconflictinEuropewasbythe
BigFour.TheBigFourwasacouncilmeetingmadeupoffourcountriesUSA,Britain,
France,andItaly.AtthistimenopaidattentiontoItaly,theBigThreeignoreitandthat
wouldcomebacktobitetheminthebuttbecauseItalywillhaveagrudgeagainstusin
WWIIsotheywillsidewithGermany.Thethreeremainingcountriesallwantsomething
fromEurope.BritainwantsterritoriesandwantsitsdebtrepaidbyFrance.Thiswould
breakdownFranceseconomy.FrancewantswarreparationsfromGermanyaround$5
billioninoneyear.ThiswouldputGermanyinahugedebtandmakethemmad.USA
wantsthe14pointspeacewithoutlosersandaleagueofnationssoontobetheUnited
Nations.ThewantsfromthebigthreemakesEuropecrippleinpolitics,economy,and
theirsocieties.

AlmosthourlyinthedaytimewewouldseeeitheroneofouraeroplanesoroneoftheGermans
shelledbytheantiaircraftgun,theshellswouldburstallaroundtheaeroplanebutIhavenever
seenonehityet.Whentheshellburstsonecanseefromthegroundthefireandthesmokehangs
likeacloudfortenorfifteenminutes.Theaeroplanesflyatagreatheightandasaruleareout
ofrange.Havetogowearebeingfiredatagain.

Themostdisgustingthinghashappened.Therewasafloodandnowourtrenchesare
