Reflection of Chapter 1- Is there Really a God?

This first chapter discusses the origins of the universe and if it makes sense to believe that
complexity derives from simplicity. Can organization come from disorganization? These ideas
are discussed in this chapter and both evolutionist and creationist views are given.
Many scientists believe that this universe and the life that inhabits the Earth came into being
through two evolutionary processes: genetic mutation and survival of the fittest. They suggest
that the universe was formed from nothing by pure chance by means of the laws of physics and
that through genetic mutations, organisms not only formed, but also increased in complexity.
From the creationist perspective, it is not possible for something to come from nothing
and organization cannot be a result of disorganization. Since there is a beginning to life and
order, there must have been something to put that order into place. Creationists believe in the
God of the Bible who is eternal. Genesis 1:1 says, In the beginning, God which suggests that
God was there in the beginning and there was no beginning of Him. He spoke everything into
existence and not only created matter, but the laws that govern it. When looking at DNA, we find
incredible order and an entire language that spells out life. While evolutionists suggest that this
DNA coding is a result of millions if not billions of years of genetic mutations, creationists
believe that this language is so complex in its design that it must originate from an intelligent
being.
In my opinion, I can see the complexity of not only the world around me, but also the
complexity in humans, both biologically and spiritually. To me, there is so much evidence of
design and intelligence in every single area of living and nonliving things. Cause and effect is a
constant in are world and every effect must have a cause. I believe that there is an eternal, allpowerful God that is not limited to space or time or physics. Nature is a beautiful proof of His
existence and proof of His great love that he has for his people.
