What were the characteristics of 1930s Germany that led to the rise of the Nazi Party?
Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Party; this was a political party in Germany active
between 1920 and 1945 that practiced Nazism. Nazism is usually characterized as a form of
fascism that incorporates scientific racism and anti-Semitism. This Party grew as a result of the
loss of world war two.
The Nazi party had its origins, In 1919, army veteran Adolf Hitler, frustrated by
Germanys defeat in World War, which had left the nation economically depressed and
politically unstable, joined a fledgling political organization called the German Workers
Party (Vashem 1). The people of Germany were so frustrated with this loss that they opted to
new idea such as creating the Nazi party. This party used to be the German workers party but was
altered by Adolf Hitler in such ways that seemed to be better in his eyes. Hitler and the Nazi
Party rose to power due to the social and political circumstances that characterized the
interwar period in Germany (Vashem 1). These social and political circumstances needed to
be altered in such a way that made life better to Hitler. He wasnt doing this for the good of the
people from what it seemed. In the 1924 Reichstag elections, the Nazi Party received three
percent of the votes cast and was represented in the parliament by fourteen delegates

(Vashem 1). After all the votes were in for this it was apparent that Adolf Hitler had won. He
would now be the supervisor or fuhrer for the Nazi Party.
The German population swallowed the bitter pill of defeat as the victorious Allies
punished Germany severely (Timeline 1). This was yet another reason the Nazi Party was
established. Because of this defeat everyone was devastated that they created this party and
killed up to the thousands of people. Adolf Hitler joined this small political party in 1919
and rose to leadership through his emotional and captivating speeches (Timeline 1). After
hitler decided that his speeches were captivating to the audience he decided that he would use
that to his advantage. And he did use it, to become the leader of the Nazi party. He changed the
name of the party to the National Socialist German Workers' Party, called for short, the
Nazi Party. By the end of 1920, the Nazi Party had about 3,000 members (Timeline 1). As
stated before Hitler noticed he was an influential speaker. So he used it to his advantage and by
the end these three thousand members believed every word he had said.
The people of Germany believed that Hitler would make them the best country. That was
thought by them because he was such a well-developed public speaker. But as it turned out later
on, the Nazi party was a bad thing. It wasnt such a bad thing to those people back then but as we
look upon it now it is pretty bad, they killed millions of people and had no consequences.
The people of Germany a part of the Nazi party stayed true to the rules and Ideas of this
Nazi organization. They didnt disobey and always followed Hitler. They stayed to true to their
organization. Because of these reasons and the reasons ahead the Nazi party was formed.
