Measurable Lesson Objective(s):

Students will be able to understand the structure of all cell organelles
Materials/Technologies/Resources Needed:

Assessment (Formative and/or Summative):
Formative: candy cell drawing in cell lab packet
Anticipatory Set (Hook & Agenda):
Gather the materials that they need for the day as they walk into the room.
Teacher will:

Students will:

Leave all of the material out on

the handout pickup table for the
students to pick up for that day.
Also I will have the table of
contents up on the document
camera for the students to copy.
During this time I will take
attendance and pass back cell
drawings.

Gather materials and head to

their seats and copy down the
table of contents. Once done
with their table of contents then
they need to work on work that
we will be doing today.

Independent Practice
There is no prescribed order to this section; you must tailor the order to the students and the content. This should be the
longest portion of your lesson plan.

*Early Release Day*

Ask each student if they would
rather be a plant or an animal
cell and give them the baggie full
of candy. Then tell them that
they cannot eat any candy yet
and if they do then they will not
be allowed to participate in the
lab any longer. I will then hand
out plates and juice to the class. I
will tell the class to use their cell
drawings that I have given back
to them and make sure that the
candy matches with the
organelle. Once they have
completed their cell they need to
answer questions and draw their
cells in the packets. While they
are answering questions and
after they have drawn their cell
they can eat their candy. Then I
will have the class get started
and I will walk around to monitor
them and make sure they are not
eating the food before drawing
the picture in the packet.

Listen to all directions and not

eat the candy. Then they will
create their cells out of the
candy and complete their
packets. They can eat their
candy after they have drawn the
cell.

Students will:

Tell the class that the cells quiz

is next class and that they
need to study because this is a

Declarative Summary Statement: What is the function of chromatin and the nucleolus?
Activity If Extra Time Remains or Technology Fails:
Extra: Cell white boards
Technology: Verbally go over page one of packet
Teacher will:

Students will:

Extra: tell them that they need

to label every part of the plant
and animal cell with no notes.

Extra: label the two cells

Technology: ask what each candy

will represent each cell
organelle.

Technology: Answer when they

are called on and write down
what is said. They will not be
talking during this time.
