ATHENS WINS!
Athens defeats Persia at Marathon |Boy runs over 20 miles for help|

Zeus may be angry!


Warning! Zeus may be angry.
Prepare for little rain and bad
harvests! Already, people have
had crops die. There have
been reports of locusts
invading farms and eating
crops. Also, many people have
been saving their crops for
next harvest because of this
warning.

splits into two straps at the

The Battle at Marathon


The Athenians won! Athens just defeated Persia and is now
driving them back to Persia. The Persians just recently attacked
the city of Marathon under the lead of King Darius. They sailed
in from Persia, gather d their supplies, and mounted an attack.
The Athenians were greatly outnumbered, with less than 1,000
Athenians against the entire Persian army. When the battle
began, Pheidippides ran to get help from Sparta. He ran
approximately 140 miles in less than two days. After he finished
his extraordinary journey and reached Sparta, the Spartans
declined his plea for help, and Pheidippides ran back. Eventually,
Athens defeated Persia! With this news, Pheidippides ran back to

tell fellow Athenians of their victory. He ran as fast as he could


for all 26 miles, and when he got to Athens, he exclaimed Nike!,
and then passed away. Although this victory brings some sadness
with the death of Pheidippides, it marks a great victory for
Athens after being persecuted by Persia for so many years.

ball as far as they can in this event.
