Unlocking the Door to Learning Through Literacy will offer ELA, ELL, and
Special Education teachers, and paraprofessionals an opportunity to expand
their learning about grammar and sentence writing with William Van Cleave,
discuss implications of the 2016 ELA Kansas Assessment, glean information
about the state of education through Kathy Buschs keynote address, and expand literacy knowledge in break-out sessions.

The morning inservice begins with a large group activity in the Dining Hall, followed by breakout sessions on a variety of topics that are pathway specific.

Math Symposium - Standards, Collaboration and Reflection
All 6th - 12th Grade Math Teachers and Math Paras
This will be a day for the secondary math teachers to spend time collaborating
with each other to deepen understanding of the KCCRS-Math standards. In
the morning, all 6-12 teachers will be participate in a General Session in the
auditorium, and work in grade level teams around standards analysis. Paras
are invited to the General Session, or may choose the Para Support in the Cotaught Classroom & Math Fact Strategies Practice session. In the afternoon,
all teachers and paras will have Choice sessions for math Tools, Content or
Curriculum, and a feeder pattern meeting. All teachers will need to bring their
math standards spiral booklets for the morning session. Other materials, such
as curriculum materials, laptops or graphing calculators will be indicated on
the Choice session spreadsheet that will be sent to math teachers.

The Fine Arts PD In-service will focus on Vertical Content Alignment through
whole group, feeder pattern and job-alike sessions. In addition, we will coordinate annual District Fine Arts Events and University/Community collaborations.

Physical Education
South High School

Middle and High School Physical Education Teachers will participate in activities presented by ADA Sports and Rackets. These activities will cover topics
concerning racket sports, gator ball activities and Disc Golf. Both Amy Sommers and Brandon Wolff will also be presenting to teachers throughout the
day.

JROTC and Leadership

Science
East High School

Secondary science teachers will attend District In-Service at East High in the
Science Hall. Teachers will attend one content specific Planning Your 4th
Quarter Using the IUG session and 3 choice sessions. Choice sessions will
include: Reflecting on the first three quarters of your content specific IUG, labs
and activities to support content specific IUGs, Microchemistry, pHet Simulations, Literacy strategies, Explicit Vocabulary Routines, and Total Participation
Techniques. Teachers will receive an email with session descriptions and materials needed to create their personal schedule for the day. Session space will
be limited so teachers are asked to have an alternate session planned for each
time frame. All teachers are asked to bring their laptops, planning materials,
and any labs/activities they want added to their IUGs.

Social Studies

The social studies inservice will begin with a keynote address from Jim McNiece,
Chairman of the Kansas State Board of Education, followed by an overview and
review of essential social studies information. The remainder of the morning
will consist of professional learning through breakout sessions of choice. In the
afternoon, social studies specialist Glen Wiebe (author of Social Studies Central
& History Tech websites) will be a guest presenter. We will also participate in
job-alike sessions with a focus on how we are using our new instructional unit
guides for planning quality standards based lessons.

World Languages

World language teachers will share standards based best practices through
strategy roundtables, collaboration by language and level, and a swap meet for
quality lessons. Time will be provided for working on instructional unit guides
for upper level courses and general information gained from recent language
conferences.

Dunbar Campus

The JROTC and Leadership sessions will include effective classroom teaching techniques, in-depth review of district city league team drill procedures,
JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA) requirements, 100th Anniversary 5K
run/walk, review and update of district wide JROTC and Leadership events/
activities, update on JCLC, and CPR training and accreditation.

Library Media

All Certified Librarians and Library Clerks
Our library in-service will include informational presentations from those who
attended AASL with specifics on how we can document and show evidence of
student learning in the library, as well as focused sharing time by level and
whole group highlighting best practices for teaching and library management.
Secondary staff will participate in an EBSCO webinar demonstrating the free
online databases available from the Kansas State Library. Erin Howerton
from the Wichita Public Library will give presentations on Whats New in Childrens/Young Adult Literature.

Child Study Team


Each related service staff will have individual profession specific
topics in the morning. In the afternoon there will be combined child study
team work regarding the MTSS Problem Solving Process.
