WORD ATTACK STRATEGIES!

What can I do if I
cant read a word?
Look at the pictures for clues to help you
figure out the words

Say the first few sounds of the word out

loud
Read to the end of the sentence and say
the words again

Stretch the words out slowly

Slide the sounds together to figure out the
word

Look for a chunk that you know

(-and, -art, -old, -ing)
Look for a word part (be-, -er)
Skip the word
Read to the end of the sentence
Hop back and read the word again
If you tried the short vowel sound, try it
with the long vowel sound
Which one makes sense?

Try to read the sentence again

Try a word that makes sense
