Unit Overview
Unit Title

More fun in the Solar System

Unit Summary

The unit entitled More fun in the Solar System provides interactive games and critical
thinking activities. In addition, the activities provided by the unit promotes student centered
learning wherein students engage themselves in technology based activities through making a
poster, video presentation and PowerPoint making. The unit showcases topics that are related to
science under astronomy wherein it greatly emphasizes the Solar system and the eight (8)
planets including Earth our very own planet. The unit also promotes the students to plan and
prepare for an exhibit that is necessary for the creation of the final output. The unit will take 25
days to finish and to accomplish its targeted competencies found in K-12 curriculum which is for
students to learn about the solar system with emphasis on the motions of the Earth as
prerequisite to the study of seasons.

Targeted Content Standards and Benchmarks (taken from Deped K-12 Curriculum Guide)

The students will learn to compare the planets of the solar system; and
construct a model of the solar system showing the relative sizes of the planets
and their relative distances from the Sun.
Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
Students must have:

a. Identify the planets in the Solar System.

b. Illustrate the order of planets in the Solar system.

Revision

The assigned topic or work will be distributed to each member of the group.
Each members assigned topic need to be expounded through an on-line research, journals or
any research material.
All members of the group will gather altogether and combine all their research works based on
the assigned topic.
The student will used the criteria to see if they have reached the expected result based on the
given Rubric.
Revision is needed when some areas of the plan is not met based on the rubric.

Final checklist The student will use the checklist to see if all the objectives and materiasl are all correct and

Assessment Summary

Assessing students learning are done through research about the solar system, students are
assessed based on the significant learning/discovery that they have in-lined with the
discussion/activity to which the teacher will have a total score of (20pts) with criteria: 40%content of their own learning/discovery, 30% to the relationship between the learning and the
discussion/activity, 30%- organization of ideas. And last, the students will be assessed through
their exhibit of the small project which is the poster , video and PowerPoint presentation wherein
aside from presenting they also have to deliver orally their understanding about the research
done by the group.

Unit Details
Prerequisite Skills

The students should already have the background to analyze similarities & differences, to
manipulate computer applications especially the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, to surf the
internet, to upload and download pictures, music & videos, to facilitate the projection system and
to deliver his/herself in front of a crowd.
Instructional Procedures

Day1
* Students will introduce themselves to the class one by one alphabetically through using their
talents.
*The teacher will share to the class the topics that they will tackle and what is expected of them
to complete and after completing the unit.
* Students will have to answer the K-W-L chart given by the teacher to check if they have interest
on the topic and to check whether they already have an idea about the Solar System and its
planets.
Day2
* Students will be given a K-W-L chart before the class starts as their record for today's learning
or discovery which will be scored only in the 'now I know' section that is to be gathered at the
end of the session.
* The teacher will tell the students her agenda for the day which is to tackle about the solar
system and the names of the planets it contains.
*During the discussion the students will be task to search what's the name of the astronomer
who proposed the solar system and will seek for the person's personal background data. In
addition, students will have to search for the names of the planets in the solar system.

teacher (same rubric for the final output). Their role in the classroom are
simply the listeners (if in any situations, they can also question/interact).
For the workshop they will be in charge with the special programs from the
invitations to the tokens.

We are an English only state so all of the accommodations that I would use for my
resource and/or Title I students listed above are also beneficial for my NES students.

Students are tasked to submit all activities given by the teacher individually. They
will be assessed based on the standard rubric of the teacher (same rubric for the
