Admin Settings/Active Users

Each row displayed in the active users list indicates one DocUnity user license. The maximum number of
users allowed into the system is set using the licensing panel in the system administration section.
Generally, the system administration section is only available to root technical support. End users are
not permitted to modify licensing settings.
If more users attempt to connect than are allowed those users are rejected.
An explanation of the columns in the active users list is now provided.
The column USER is the name of the Windows user associated with the license. The column COMPUTER
is the name of the physical machine that is associated with the license. These values interrelate with
regard to the DocUnity license. For example if the same user is logged into two different computers, two
licenses are required. However, if the same user runs DocUnity twice on the same machine, only one
license is required.
The column DATABASE provides the DocUnity database associated with the license. Since one SQL
Server can support multiple DocUnity databases, it is possible for various users to be connected to
various DocUnity databases.
The column SQL CONNECTIONS indicates the number of concurrent low level database connections that
are associated with the DocUnity license.

Server Modes/SQL Connections

When DocUnity is launched command line parameters in the desktop shortcut put the application into
various sever modes. If no command parameters are given, the default, then the application runs in user
mode. By looking at information in the about box (click white question mark in the upper right hand
corner of the main window) you can see if a DocUnity application is running with activated server
modes. If no server modes are active then DocUnity is in user mode.
User mode only requires one low level database connection. A user mode DocUnity application may
dynamically request and release low level database connections as needed. For example when using the
system administrative functions to import and export documents and schemas low level database
connections are created and released on the fly.
Server mode requires the one low level database connection from user mode. In addition server mode
requires one connection for each server function that has been activated. If the startup command
parameter is SERVER then all server functions are turned on. Individual server functions can be turned

on selectively using specialized startup commands. Commands are grouped together to coordinate
server functions between instances of multiple server mode DocUnity applications.
Starting with SERVER causes all server functions to run.
Starting with SOCKET starts the workflow socket functions to process routing from e-mail
Starting with STREAM starts the document stream services
Starting with TASKS starts the workflow e-mail task functions
Starting with USERCOUNT enables the user count monitoring functions
Notice a single user system that starts with SERVER will consume five low level database connections,
one for the basic user mode database connection and four more for each enabled server function.
