JUSTIFY NEED

My name is Katia Carrizales and Im coursing 8 th grade at the Instituto

Anglo Britanico School from Monterrey, Nuevo Len. And now we are starting
with the Technology Fair Project. This fair is about creating a product that
solves an actual issue in our society. The creation of this product is in team,
finally when we already passed through each stage we are supposed to give an
exposition of our products where there are judges that check your product and
the best team and product are rewarded from 1 st place to 3rd place from all the
generation. In order to obtain the final product we need to base on a problem to
get the solution (product).
A problem that I consider that its affecting globally is the lack of education
to children on developing countries and poor urban districts.
Almost 57 million children of primary school age do not attend school.
More than the 50% children live in sub-Saharan Africa, and more than
20% in South and West Asia. The 54 % of the children that dont attend to
school are girls.
In sub-Saharan Africa, just the 56% of children complete a full primary
school education.
As you may see its a huge problem on developing
countries, because they dont have the enough means to
at least afford for a basic education, teachers conditions
are bad (they are paid in a poorly way), many schools are
not equipped to cover overheads like water, electricity or
transport and finally teacher are not well trained, they are
insufficiently prepared for their work or profession.
In 2010, 69 million youths of secondary school
age (10 to 16 years) did not attend secondary
school. 774 million young people and adults cannot
read or write, and most of them are women. As you
may see this situation NOT only happens on rural
regions, there are also many poor urban districts that
pass through this situation, even in my country that
is Mexico. Increasing school enrolment rates and
the rising numbers of children completing primary
school education in the developing countries is giving rise to the need to create
opportunities for this kids but the opportunities available are still not adequate.
To make understand that this is a really big problem around the world I
decided to make a survey. Where I asked 18 of my partners of my classroom this
questions

After mentioning this facts to you, you may realize that its really important
to find out a solution for this problem. Since this kids really need an opportunity
or a chance to have an education. And if we dont give them the opportunity we
would never know if those kids will be the next Einstein, or the next Steve Jobs. A
person that probably would create the next invention of the history and we dont
know. This kids are the future of the world, and they deserve at least a basic
education for the development of certain skills and abilities.
Sadly this is not happening just in the continent of Africa. This is also
happening on other sectors of other countries, including mine (Mexico).
Countries that also have issues by providing a good quality of education are
some countries from Asia as Indonesia, Malaysia, and India Latin American
countries too, mainly in the rural areas.

PRIORITIZE RESEARCH

As you may know the problem that Im going to focus on is the lack of
education nowadays, it can be because people doesnt have the enough
resource to get a good education or it can be because schools have loosed their
focus that is preparing by teaching the future of the world. But now I basing
mostly on people that doesnt have a good economy situation to afford a good
education studies. So, the teacher told us to investigate some campaigns that
have been trying to do something to change this situation that many countries
are passing through.
1st Organization: United Nations
United Nations have made a movement called Global Education First
Initiative. This movement have 3 priorities: Put every child on a school, improve
the quality of learning, and finally foster global citizenship. Barriers that have
made this not possible to accomplish: gender discrimination, child labor
(poverty), humanitarian conflicts, unaffordable costs, lack of learning materials,
shortage of qualified teachers, language barriers, ineffective systems to evaluate
students performance, inadequate focus on values, lack of teacher capacity
This organization tries to put quality education to the social, political and
development agendas and generate sufficient funding for education.
2nd Organization: Save the children Literacy Boost
Save the Children's Literacy Boost is helping to change that by creating a
culture of reading both inside and outside the classroom. Literacy Boost helps
children learn to read and read to learn by: Measuring kids' reading skills to
see how well they know their ABCs, sound out words and letters, read and
understand sentences. Training teachers to help children crack the code of
reading, keep students engaged and interested in reading books, and use
games, songs and stories in literacy lessons. Getting communities involved in
learning by providing books, libraries and supplies, sponsoring camps, "reading
buddies" and other learning activities.
3rd Organization: Dubai cares
This organization or campaign has
launched a School Feeding
Campaign which taught to the community the importance of basic nutrition for
children and its linkages to improving access to education and increased ability
to learn while in school. Over 1000 retail establishments participated in and
supported the campaign to provide children with school feeding. Funds were
used to contribute to school feeding programs worldwide, especially those that
focus on encouraging girls enrollment in order to reduce the gender gap that
exists in many education environments.
