Classroom Rules, Routines, and Procedures

I am Miss Cremeans and welcome to ninth grade physical science! My goal is to help all
students develop their natural curiosity, appreciate the value of science, and gain a better
understanding of the world around them. In order to achieve this, there are certain
expectations that must be met. Please read them and sign at the bottom, then return to me as
soon as possible. By the end of the first week, students will be given a safety contract that
must be signed by parents. Until this is returned to me, the student will not be able to
participate in any lab hazardous enough to require goggles.
If at any time you would like to speak with me, my email is ccremeans@wvstateu.edu
and you can call the school to schedule a meeting. All assignments will be posted on the Class
Dojo that the students may access anywhere as well as parents. Im looking forward to getting
to know you and having a great year!
Science Class Expectations
Class Atmosphere:

We always treat ourselves, each other, and the school with respect.

Safety is the highest priority; part of being safe is paying attention and following
directions.

Be productive in class; use your time efficiently.

You are expected to remain on task.

Arrive prepared to learn. Have your notebooks, paper, pencils, and all other required
supplies every day.

No eating, drinking, or chewing gum in lab.

Personal electronic devices may not be used in class.

Hoods must be off during class.

At the beginning of class:

Go directly to your seat

Quietly work on the days starter activity, which will be displayed on the
smartboard.

You must be in your seat when the bell rings or you will be marked
tardy.

End of Class:

Pick up trash, clean out lab sinks, and clean up your area; Leave nothing behind.

Be seated and listening quietly for my final comments before dismissal.

Remain in your seat until dismissed by me not the clock. (6th period: Put up
chairs and wait by your seat.
Lab Activities:

Follow safety rules as outlined in the safety contract.

Failure to follow safety procedures will not be tolerated and may result in being
removed from the room and losing credit for the lab or activity.

Absence or Missing Work:

All activities, assignments, and scheduled events are shared on class Dojo, so it would
be to you advantage to check this before returning to school.

If you are absent, you will have one additional day to complete your work for every day
you missed class, plus one. When you return to class after being absent, it is your
responsibility to check the assignment folder and/or website for anything you have missed.
Once this has been done, if there are still questions, then you may ask me for clarification.

You need to make an appointment for lab makeups-these are conducted before school,
during lunch, and break.

Missed tests and quizzes must be made up ASAP or they will be entered as a
zero. ASAP means within about a week of your return to school. You will need to make
an appointment to make up a test or quiz. As soon as everyone has a grade for the
test/quiz, they will be returned and discussed.

Late Work:
An assignment is considered late if it is turned in after I have collected it, even if it is
during the same period. Late work will not be accepted unless there is an excused absence.

3
Grading:
You will be graded using a point system that covers all assignments, quizzes/tests, and
projects. Assignments will vary in points possible from 5 150 (approximate). Adding up the
points you have earned throughout the semester and taking their percentage of the total
possible points will determine your grade. Letter grades will be assigned according to the
county grading scale, as follows:

90-100 % of total possible points

69-60 % of total possible points

89-80 % of total possible points

79-70 % of total possible points

F
59 % and below of total possible
points

Academic Honesty:
On most assignments working together is encouraged, but you must still produce your
own work. Using anyone elses work is plagiarism, and considered cheating. Copying and
pasting material found on the Internet is also plagiarism. If I see you copying from another
paper, I will take both papers and give both students a zero. The penalty for cheating, or
helping another student cheat, will be a zero on the assignment. As mentioned above sharing
data from a lab is not considered cheating.
There is to be form of communication between students during tests and quizzes. (This
includes looking at someone elses paper). This will be considered cheating, and will result in a
zero grade and possible further consequences. Please take this seriously.
Participation:
Students will get 2 points per day for participation. Those points are automatic unless points
are taken away.
Points will be taken away for: not having required materials, being disruptive or disrespectful,
throwing things, being sent to the office for discipline, unsafe behavior, cheating, and being off
task.
I reserve the right to dock points for other reasons according to my best judgment. See me if
you have further questions.
Discipline:
Discipline will be handled in accordance with the county and school policies, which can be
found in the student handbook. Disrespectful behavior will result first in a loss of participation
points, and if it continues, students will receive one or more lunch detentions, after school
detentions, or office referrals. If a student behaves in an unsafe manner, that student will be
removed from the class immediately and further consequences will apply.
Expectations of your Teacher:

I will treat you with fairness and respect.

Grading will be done fairly and as quickly as possible.

I am always open to questions, suggestions, concerns, and so on at appropriate

times.

I am happy to give you extra help if given advance notice. We may need to make
an appointment.

I will do my best to make this a positive, informative, and enjoyable learning

experience.

Parents and Students: Please sign and return pages 4-5. Students: Keep this packet AND
the lab safety rules in your folder or binder!

Dear Parent or Guardian:

We feel that you should be informed regarding the schools effort to create and maintain
