Period 6
Tyranny of the Majority

Do you remember as a child saying that things werent fair? Do you remember
thinking what life would be if life was fair? You would think everything would be perfect
and that everything equivalent. However, If things were this way we would have a tyrant
government. The definition of tyrant is, a cruel and oppressive leader. In other words no
one would have the choice to do anything, and the government would tell us everything
that we are suppose to do. A tyrant government would not be ideal government.
A tyrant government would only have so much power over us before it came too
much for them. As stated by John Stuart Mill, There is a limit to the legitimate
interference of collective opinion with individual independence; and to find that limit, and
maintain it against encroachment is as indispensable to a good condition of human
affairs. By what he is saying it means that they will try everything they think is
necessary to find that limit even if it means intruding on personal property. Having a
tyrant government would be a unfitting choice.
John Stuart Mill explains perfectly what a tyrant government wants, he states,To
fetter the development and, if possible, prevent the formation of any individuality not in
harmony with its way. In this statement he is explaining that a tyrant government
doesnt want to acquire an abnormal person; someone who will disrupt the path that
they have carved. They will try their very best to destroy these people, because they
want all the power they can grasp in their hands. By having everyone equal would not

be a sturdy move for our country. Our country would slowly be taken over by the
government and the people would have no decisions on anything that occurs. In other
words, a tyrant government would be an unsatisfactory choice.
Some people might say that a tyrant government would be a tolerable decision
considering you would have to make no decisions. However, they are mistaken, not only
would they make decisions for you but the definition of tyrant is a cruel and oppressive
leader which means, our leader you be very abusive, it may not be physically but in the
way of making sure we wont have any freedom whatsoever. Tyranny government would
an undesirable settlement.
As you can see a tyrant government would be an inferior choice for us. The
government would overtake you lives. They would make sure we would have no say in
what we do. Also they would pause the development of technology, environment and
anything they could get their hands on. As a government they would make it so we
could no longer acquire knowledge about anything they didnt like. A tyrant government
would be an unrighteous choice.
