the TONIC, the note that feels Final to us,
very often the last Chord of the song...

CHORD CONSTRUCTION
Most of the time the BASS NOTE
is the ROOT of the CHORD
ROOT = the Name of the Chord,
the Bottom Note of the Triad,
the 1 of the 1-3-5
or the C of the C-E-G [C Triad]
in a C major chord the ROOT is C
Pop Quiz-Melody
Listen and write the LETTER NAMES
of the MELODY over the BASS LINE
CHORD CONSTRUCTION
Now we know the BASS NOTE
(probably the ROOT of the CHORD)
CHORD CONSTRUCTION
a QUICK WRAP-UP:
the BASS NOTE is probably the
ROOT of the CHORD
but the Bass Note is sometimes NOT the ROOT
the Bass Note could be the 3rd or the 5th;
the E or the G of the C Major Chord (or even the 7th!!)
These are called SLASH CHORDS or INVERSIONS,
C/E (3rd in the Bass) and C/G (5th in the Bass)
