ThehackerorhackersthatbroughtdownSonysvideogameand
entertainmentserviceshascostthecompanymorethanjustcustomer
satisfaction.AccordingtoSonysofficialearningsforecast,theshutdown
ofPlayStationNetworkandQriocity willcostthegamemaker
approximately$170million.
Theattack,whichoccurredonApril20,resultedinthelossofcrucial
customerinformationfrommillionsofSonygamersandentertainment
customers.Sonyhasinvestedheavilyinstrengtheningitsnetworksbefore
recentlyreopeningtheservice.Inaddition,thecompanyisofferingfree
datasecurityforitscurrentcustomersandofferingfreegamesandother
rewardsforthosewhoremainedthroughtheoutage.
Wevebeenfortifyingoursystemsecurity,saidShuhei Yoshida,
president,worldwidestudios,SonyComputerEntertainmentlastweek.
