Interesting Points
1. Inclusive Learning ought to be mandatory.
2. Lack or resources or Choosing not to use them?
3. Teachers need to adopt a method of assessing their students learning preferences
without formal testing part of knowing the students in your classroom.
4. Challenges to implementing inclusive learning/differentiated learning (see notes)
5. Inclusive learning becoming a widely accepted thing the Norm

Connections to Specific Subjects

Mathematics

Diversity of topics may not all be of the same difficulty

for the student. For example a student might excel in
algebra, but struggle with trigonometry. The point is that a
student shouldnt be evaluated based on the subject in
general. (this applies to all subject areas)

Bringing home structure into the school make a familiar environment for the student in which
they can learn
IPPs (higher level) versus learning profiles (teacher)

Other
Examples of poor inclusive learning (good what not to dos)
- Ignoring the necessity for inclusive learning ADHD children
- OCD oral spelling tests keep up or lose
- FAS Constant aid required
Accept that there are students who require differentiated learning, and choose to use
resources that are available. Sometimes the question becomes: Lack or resources or
Choosing not to use them?
Practicing inclusive learning:
Question of best Teacher-to-Student ratio
Learning Centers
- Giving the same information in multiple ways
- Learning styles versus learning preferences (Labelling a style=stigma)
- Give students the opportunity to choose how they think they my like to learn
Challenges:
- Fairness isnt equal the challenge of helping students understand this concept. From
their perspective, fairness is usually related to equality.
-

Figuring out what can be flexible not ideal to create an individual lesson plan for
each individual student

Dealing with parents those who arenot accepting of inclusive students in the
classroom among their normative students. Communication is key. Figure out ways
to make the normative student help his/her parent understand (aka get the student
on board, and maybe the parent(s) will follow)

Cant teach to the lowest student. The end goal is to have the whole class move on
the reality is that some will struggle, but it isnt that have to be left behind; you just
cant wait for them to catch up before moving on with the rest of the class. Again,
parent communication is key help them seek outside resources, and make USE of
available resources.

Continual assessment different subject/material may be difficult, others not so much
