INDIVIDUAL PROJECT BRIEF AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Project Task:
Analysis and exploration of installation design using projection.
The student will generate a stimulus for the basis of a fully immersive
installation piece in, which can incorporate lighting, sound, smell,
projection and more
The student will learn to use Isadora & Qlab to produce the installation
piece.
Project with include all necessary paperwork associated with these
roles and documentation of the process.
General Aims:
To enable students to pursue an in-depth investigation into an aspect of
theatre design or production of the students choice.
Learning Outcomes:
In marking your work on this module your tutor expects you to:
Investigate the chosen subject in a way which synthesises theory and
practice in an appropriately specialised manner, and which draws upon
knowledge and skills acquired in other areas of the programme;
Critically appraise dramatic principles or production practices, through
research and critical reflection;
Display a range of design/production skills and techniques to an
appropriate standard;
Demonstrate creative and critical exploration of your chosen study area.
Timetable
You will have a series of scheduled tutorial times with your supervisor, as
well as some group sessions focusing on presentations. The times for
your tutorials will be scheduled as things progress, as might the content if
needed. We have attempted to provide you with some targets for each of
the meetings to aid your progression.

Session 1 Wednesday 2nd March PA002 10am


This initial group session will be a discussion about the module aims, and
the initial briefs will be distributed for discussion in the subsequent
tutorials. Please take away your brief and make any notes on it that you
might like to. After your meeting well collect up the briefs, tidy up any
necessary amendments and then distribute them to you electronically.
Meeting 1 Wednesday 2nd March Schedule on Moodle
This introductory meeting will enable you to meet your tutor and engage
in a discussion about the project.
At this meeting you should demonstrate:
A professional attitude to time-keeping and preparation
An understanding of the depth and breadth of the project the students
wishes to undertake
Friday 4th 11am in H004 (Theatre)
A talk from Jacob Gough from National Theatre Wales about the Roald
Dahl 100 celebrations in Cardiff in September
Session 2 (entire group) Tuesday 8th March 10am 1pm in PA002
This will be a session to look at different presentation formats, and talk
about the nature of structuring a presentation.

Meeting 2
At this meeting you should demonstrate:
Identification of a proposed stimulus for discussion.
Analysis of personal strengths and weaknesses
Scheduling (the times for the other meetings will also be discussed at

this tutorial)
Meeting 3
At this meeting you should demonstrate:
An understanding of the nature of the role of an installation designer
and site-specific art.
A professional attitude to time-keeping and preparation
Initial Research & ideas
A Basic blog structure started & shared with Stacey-Jo
Meeting 4
At this meeting you should demonstrate:

In-depth research & ideas
Blog link sent to Stacey
Analysis of installation art, immersive theatre completed.
Key principles for project defined.

Meeting 5
At this meeting you should demonstrate:

Moodboards
Experimentation
Meeting 6
At this meeting you should demonstrate:

Testing within space
Final design ideas
A basic structure for the final submission identifying key issues and
solutions and accompanying paperwork.

Meeting 7

This meeting will be a discussion of the submission and conclusions.


At this meeting you should demonstrate:

Final design
The capacity to identify problems and make amendments as required
The capacity to maintain the momentum of a project and give
confidence that the task will be achieved
Have a schedule for work to be completed over the Easter break

Welcome back!
Meeting 7 Monday 18th April
This meeting will be a discussion of the submission and conclusions.
At this meeting you should demonstrate:

A professional attitude to time-keeping and preparation


Complete process workbook and all accompanying paperwork
The capacity to identify problems and make amendments as required
The capacity to maintain the momentum of a project and give
confidence that the task will be achieved

Meeting 8 Wednesday 20th April in PA002


This final meeting will be have a dry run at your presentation and gain
any additional support and feedback from your tutor. You will be
provided with a filmed copy of your presentation at this session for
review.
At this meeting you should demonstrate:
A professional attitude to time-keeping and preparation
Clear and coherent presentation skills
The ability to accept criticism and remain flexible enough to
accommodate any changes, which are felt necessary.

Final Presentations Thursday 21st April in PA002


Assessment will consist of a presentation to the module supervisors of the
information and conclusions drawn from the project. The presentation
can take either of the following two formats:
1. A presentation lasting no longer than 7 minutes (you will be
stopped at 7 minutes).
2. A Petcha Kutcha (20/20) style presentation lasting exactly 6
minutes and 40 seconds.
Exhibition Friday 22nd April in PADS
A chance for you all to display the work you have produced over the past
few weeks Invite friends, family and fellow students.
