My Comparison Of MEDC (UNITED KINGDOM) and an LEDC

(MALAWI)

The United Kingdom compared to Malawi shows a great difference in

population growth, economical issues and environmental issues. The
population of United Kingdom is 60,776,238. The population of Malawi is
13,603,181. This shows that the United Kingdom has a greater
population than Malawi. The population growth of United Kingdom is
0.275% whilst Malawi has a population growth is 2.383%. This clearly
shows that the population of Malawi is increasing faster than the United
Kingdom. United Kingdom has a mainly dense population compared to
Malawi which is sparsely populated country. The United Kingdom is in
definitely in the fourth stage of the demographic transition model. This I
because the United Kingdom has a low birth and low death rate. Malawi
is in the first to second stage of the demographic transition model as it
has a high birth rate as well as a high death rate. The birth rate of the
United Kingdom is 10.67/1000 population and the death rate is
10.09/1000 population. These figures are significantly low compared to
Malawi, which has a birth rate of 42.09/1000 population and death rate
of 18.25/1000 population. The life expectancy of the United Kingdom is
78.8 years. The life expectancy of Malawi is 48.7 years. This is very low
compared to United Kingdom and could be because of low medicines.
The infant mortality rate of the United Kingdom is 5.01/1000 population,
compared to Malawi this is very low. The infant mortality rate of Malawi is
92.1 which is high and we know that because more people are dying
because of Malaria. Over all the demographics of both countries have a
great difference showing that they are in different stages in the
demographic transition model.
