Classroom

Arrangement Assignment
I.

A safe and healthy environment that maximized student learning:

I arranged the student desks into tables of four, all sitting together and staggered
around the classroom. This provides a safe environment for waling around the
classroom for both the students and me. There is plenty of room around the desks
so that students can move liberally in their seats as well as my ability to approach
students when I am monitoring seatwork activities.

II.

The students as they learn:

The desks are pushed together to form pods to promote group learning and work,
aside from the circle table at the front. The chairs are all arranged at each seat so
that no student has their back facing the front board. This allows all students an
opportunity to see the board, which encourages students to pay attention. It is
critical for student learning because students do not have to turn their desk or body
to pay attention or follow along with the lecture. This manages behavior and
learning for students with diverse needs as well. I have arranged the students in
pods to promote group work for the diverse students as well. They feel like they are
part of a group and can work with others and/or temper their behavior.

III.

You, as ou use effective instructional strategies to meet students individual

needs:
The classroom is set up with plenty of walking room so that I am able to walk
around and give lectures and facilitate class discussion. This also helps with
instructional strategies since the class is based off of group work as well as lecture.
Not only will students benefit off of the pods for group work but if they have a quick

question or concern that I do not need to stop class for, they can turn to 1-3 students
for the answer.
IV.

Your ability to use effective management techniques in the classroom:

Seating which faces the front also gives me an opportunity to see all students in
order to keep eye contact with them. This promotes effective management
techniques as well. If I cannot see all the students, it is difficult to determine
when/which students need assistance and/or prevent task disruption.
Students with diverse needs:
The student sitting at table 4 lives in extreme poverty; therefore, they are sitting
next to the student storage. This is where the students keep their markers, supplies,
etc. This gives the students close proximity to materials to use when they do not
have them. It will not create attention to the student in need of supplies since they
can simply turn around and grab what they need, instead of walking across the
whole classroom.
The student sitting at tale 6 has hearing and visual impairment. They are sitting
directly in front of me to see the projector clearly and to hear me.
Finally, the student sitting directly in front of my desk at table 7 has ADHD. Since
they are easily distracted by their peers, I sat them directly in front of me, so that I
can monitor their focus and refocus them when necessary.
