GOVERNMENT
ABSOLUTE MONARCHY
The three things government does for its people are
Single ruler with NO LIMITS on power
ORGANIZES, MAKES LAWS, and PROTECTS.
For example King Louis the Sixteenth would kill anyone
who would disobey or go against him.
DEMOCRACY
CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY
EVERYONE gets to make decisions about government
Type of government where the king or queen is limited
People VOTE for their leaders
by a constitution or laws
For example the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth
DIRECT DEMOCRACY
People directly vote for their own leaders (For example:
On Guam we vote for our own Governor and Senators)
Everyone gets a vote on every major decision
Small groups follow decisions with MOST votes

DICTATORSHIP
Type of government where dictator rules BY FORCE
Makes decisions with help of advisors
Dictator wants POWER FOR LIFE
For example, Adolf Hitler.

INDIRECT DEMOCRACY
Also known as Representative Democracy
People DO NOT elect leaders directly (For example: In
the United States people do not directly elect the
President, it is the electoral college)
Elect a few individuals to represent us
Trust these people to make decisions
We can elect new representatives

SOCIALISM
Type of government where resources are shared equally
by the government
People have LIMITED OWNERSHIP of the products they
make

OLIGARCHY
Small group of leaders make decisions for the whole
group
Members of the same political party (For example:
Republican or Democrat)

COMMUNISM
Type of government where leaders use ONLY their OWN
resources
Use socialism
Limit trade with other nations
Use force to protect their power
For example, Kim Jung Un, North Korean President
THEOCRACY
A type of government that believes that God or a divine
being has the ultimate power
For example the Pope is the leader of Vatican City and
follows the Roman Catholic Church

AUTOCRACY
One person runs the government making all the
decisions
There are different types of autocracies: Monarchy,
Absolute Monarchy, Constitutional Monarchy,
Dictatorship, Socialism, Communism
MONARCHY
Type of government ruled by a King or a Queen
When a king or queen dies they are replaced by the
person next in line, which is usually a son, daughter, or
family member

ANARCHY
Type of government where NO ONE is in CONTROL or
EVERYONE is in CONTROL
