3. Explain why efforts to raise physical fitness levels in youth have been
largely unsuccessful?
- Decrease in PE programs in high school
- Physical fitness is short term goal for youth
- increasingly attaches to electronics. They rely on handheld
gaming to have fun instead of going outside
- Pressured into sports or activities and stop playing because
they are held to a standard
- Students feel they are not as skulled and then drop out of PE.

4. Explain how physical maturity affects the physical skills of students.

- Chronological age> skeletal age=child is a late maturer
- Skeletal age > chronological age- child is an early mature
- PE curriculum should meet needs of both late and early
maturing students less strength and size activities, and more
aerobic, agility, balance and coordination activities.
5. Explain the harmful effects that being overweight can have on the
health and well-being of a student.
- With overweight students, they can feel like they are being
looked down at. Make them feel comfortable.
- Some factors: health issues, diabetes, pushing students too
hard,
- They know their bodies better than you. COMMUNICATE

performance.
- Exercise wakes up the mind and allows you to focus on your
work.

7. Identify safety guidelines for exercise and physical activity that should
be addressed and followed by physical education teachers.

about exercise
- Using moderation helps ensure the students grow up with
positive feelings towards healthy lifestyles
- METS- ratio of work metabolic rate and resting metabolic rate.
8. Explain the rationale for assigning fitness workloads on time rather
than distance or number.
- Students feel better about private accomplishments that are set
in a small time frame rather than you have to do 25 pushups before
you can partake in the activity.
