ABSTRACT

Wound is one of the injuries that often occur. One of the most common types of
wounds were incision. Handling of wound healing is complex, requiring
alternative treatment is herbal. One is red betel leaves contain flavonoids, tannins
and other substances that are anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and anti-oxidants.
This study was to assess the effect of red betel infuse topically to help speed up the
healing time of the incision.
This study is experimental with completely randomized design method against 30
male Wistar rats were divided into five groups: negative control (group I, given
sterile distilled water), positive control (group II, given povidone iodine 10%) and
treatment group (group III, IV and V) were each given a red betel infusion at a
dose of 10%, 20% and 40%. Observations made during the 14 days,
measurements are made one day after the treatment.
Research data after ANOVA test and Tukey's Post Hoc test showed red betel
infusion administration at dose of 10% and 20% showed relatively significant
results. The most significant influence is shown by the administration of red betel
infusion at dose of 40%, with first cured mice happens on the eighth day of
observation and total recovered as much as five mice with an average healing
wounds 0.235 cm per day. Results showed that the infusion of red betel help speed
up the incision wound healing time.
Keywords: Incision wound, infuse red betel topically, wound healing time.
