Explain the Steps You Have Taken or Plan to Take to Finalize Your Schedule
I met with the director, Chris Lewis, and the supervisors, Elaine Krezmein and Terry Doermer, to
organize a schedule that would allow me to continue teaching in my current position, so there
would not be a need to find a substitute teacher, as well as immerse myself in setting up our

summer program and organizing for the start of the school year. We discussed projects and
activities that I could participate in, aligning them to the ELCC standards. To begin I will be
researching and surveying staff, for a handbook and parents, for ways they might best receive
communication from the school. I will be participating in meetings to develop a new curriculum
and goal writing procedures. I will then begin my shadowing experience, running a new summer
hire meeting, preparing and executing safety drills, assisting with fundraisers, organizing
classroom staffing, attend intake meetings for new students, organizing the beginning of the
school year orientation and staffing and student placement for the 2015-2016 school year.

Explain How Your Internship Responsibilities Will be Beneficial to the School District.
My internship responsibilities will benefit The Childrens League especially through the
organization of the handbook/manual to help new staff acclimate to the professional
responsibilities at our school. Currently there is no document for new hires to reference for day
to day and month to month responsibilities. Our website has not been updated and the director
is interested in ways to promote our school and keep families in touch. We need to have safety
drills that have us working through the kinks of our current policies for lock down drills and
move to a different location drills. I will be working with staff to research curriculum, decide on
the merits of each and pick one for our school. We will also be learning new ways for writing
developmentally appropriate goals to record and document data. I can be the leader to
facilitate dialog with the State representative.
Explain How You Feel the Internship Will Help You Including Your Analysis of Areas that Require
Strengthening.
There will be many opportunities to apply knowledge to the administrative position. I will be
speaking in front of groups of adults (staff and parents), asking for assistance through surveys
and questionnaires, compiling data, sharing knowledge and learning how to set up classes with
staff and students. I will have opportunities to lead and guide new and current staff. I will have
the opportunity to work under the director of the program, who has over 25 years experience as
well as the two supervisors, one of whom was a CSE/CPSE chairperson for 3 different public
schools and the other who is new to The Childrens League. This opportunity will help me to
fully grasp all the different aspects and responsibilities of running a small school for

preschoolers with disabilities. This is where my passion is and I plan to work in this type of
setting when I complete my certificate.

Purpose
The purpose of the 400-hour internship is to experience and perform in the position of educational leader. My participation in the
internship will allow me to explore many different educational leadership areas: developing a vision, guiding instructional leadership,
managing an organization, providing for the safety of those working and learning at this school, collaborating with staff and families, and
improving the school culture and communication within the school, as well as the communication with families.
Philosophical Perspective
The Conceptual Framework components for an administrative candidate include competence, experience and social justice. This
internship will allow me to learn and experience many different facets of being an administrator. I will experience interactions with families
and staff of different backgrounds. I will need to listen to ideas and concerns and make decisions based on that information. I will need to act
responsibly and with integrity. I will research topics and share information clearly and professionally with all stakeholders.
Program Description
The Childrens League is a small school serving roughly 115 children with disabilities in a center-based program and also provides
therapeutic and special education services to 50 children in their homes. These services are provided to children in five counties within a 50
mile radius of the school in Springville, New York. This internship will focus mainly on the center-based program at the school.
The internship will begin in June with research, discussion meetings, and surveys of staff and families. The hours will be varied at
first with meetings after instructional time and research occurring at home. The weeks from June 22 through July 24 and August 17 through
August 28 will be full immersion in the administrative position.

Evaluation
Evaluation is an important part of any learning experience. Throughout the internship, I will be completing daily/monthly logs to
document the research and meetings that I have participated in. I will be reviewing and reflecting on my performance and growth as well as
conferencing with my site supervisor and my university supervisor about my performance and growth. I will continue to review the ELCC
standards to examine how I am meeting the standards. At the conclusion of the internship I will be completing a self-assessment. Both my
site supervisor and my university supervisor will complete a formal evaluation about the growth I have shown during the internship.
