Assessment is an integral part of learning. It takes into account learning styles, strengths, and needs. It is flexible and reflects a student's achievement against a set criteria, not against another student. With every assessment, students receive feedback that guides them in the right direction.

ANALYSIS/REFLECTION:
Assessment is an integral part of learning.
Good assessment takes into account learning styles, strengths, and needs. It is flexible and reflects a students achievement against a set criteria, not against another student. Effective assessment takes place over time and is varied in its approach.
There is a great deal of thought that goes into
planning lessons and the strategies that will accompany them. That being said, the way students are assessed is an integral part of their learning process. The reason for that is because with every assessment, students receive feedback that guides them in the right direction. It is important for feedback to be ongoing throughout the learning process and clear enough so that students get the most benefit from it. There also needs to be a distinct purpose for every assessment that takes into account the current level of the students, and what they need to do to reach or exceed the intended outcomes. I believe that the act of assessment is crucial for the development of the knowledge and understanding that students will need for a successful future. When the target goal is clearly defined, it makes it easier for both the teacher and the student to progress towards that end goal. In order to create an atmosphere for effective assessment, teachers must carefully observe their students to ensure that all needs are being considered and attended to. As soon as a clear objective is identified, then teachers can plan assessment strategies that will lead students in the right direction. This involves creating a supportive communication system with the students and valuable ways of letting them know how they are doing and what steps they should be taking to reach their full potential.
