Artifact Description: Truss Bridge- Use drawing tools to create a two-dimensional profile of a
truss bridge
What I Learned: This project proved to be more time consuming than I expected. I thought it
would be easy to just insert some shapes and draw some lines. However, it was more difficult
than that. I had to take my time to make sure all the lines connected. After all, a bridge cannot
stand strong if the parts are not connected. Coming up with a design for the bridge was not easy
either. After looking at pictures for inspiration, I came up with my own design that turned out
pretty well. It helps to copy and paste so everything is symmetrical. Making the lines really thick
helps too so you can better see where all the lines intersect.
National Educational Technology Standards for Students Addressed: Standard #1 Students
demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and
processes using technology.
Standard #4 Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects,
solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

Application of Skills in the Future: This assignment integrates creativity and critical thinking.
It allows students to use create freely, while also using trial and error to correct mistakes for a
great final product. I think this would be a great project to teach how bridges work and how they
are constructed. This type of project could also be done in an American History unit about the
Pilgrims. Students could construct a model of what they think the Mayflower ship may have
looked like.
