Ansonia’s taxpayers simply cannot afford the proposed increase. Unemployment hovers near 10%. Residents
and business are struggling to make ends meet, with no relief in sight. A tax increase is not the solution. It
will only serve to compound the suffering of our residents, particularly those living on low and fixed incomes.
Further, it can only serve to drive business away, at a time when we desperately need to rebuild our economy.
Those of us working in the private sector face difficult times, dealing with woefully inadequate benefits and
under constant threat of job loss. Moreover, many in Ansonia understand what it truly means to stretch a
budget and to make do without. After years of sacrifice, it is time for City Hall to join the rest of us in tighten-
ing its belt and making the tough cuts.
We therefore call on the residents of Ansonia to send this message home to City Hall by joining us in AXE
THE TAX and making their voices heard.
The first official meeting of AXE THE TAX will take place this Wednesday, April 21, at 7:00p.m. at the
United Methodist Church, at 47 Franklin Street, Ansonia, CT.
Finally, we implore all members of the public to join us at the final public hearing on the 2010 budget on:
Monday, May 10th, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Ansonia City Hall .
