Two

worlds in my shoes of another

Sara and I were really interested in Cindy Shermans and Nikki Lee`s ideas of experiencing
dierent roles of jobs which a person is working in. We were both moMvated in doing both the
roles of the performer and the photographer, so we decided to share dierent sides of the same
person and the same job. To give it a start we both decided on wriMng down the jobs that we
wanted to portray and then narrowed it down to three to four jobs which we both would play and
see how we blend or not blend in the situaMon and the characterisMc of the person doing those
jobs. We were also keen on looking at the gender stereotypes of certain kinds of jobs like auto
driver generally as mans job and cleaning as a womans job. Then who can you say is the job of a
construcMon worker? There are both men and women who help in building a house then what are
the stereotypes there? There is a myth of what a man and what a woman can do and through our
project we will like to break those stereotypes, myths and habits of people. These were our
inspiraMons and while talking we got to know that Sara has already done a few kind of jobs back
home and I have no experience of working outside in a public space, so we would like to capture
how we accept, feel and react to certain situaMons at a job.

``This project is about an Indian and a Swiss student working together and experiencing the role
of a performer and photographer of the certain jobs. They are going to dierent places and
portraying each other performing the role of an individual doing a job. How they both coming
from dierent cultures and family backgrounds slip into these dierent roles and try to portray
the same person in dierent ways/perspecMve. The result will be three-four images each of both
of them in dierent roles and how their reacMon and feeling can be captured in a candid moment
working those situaMons as a certain person.``

The plan is, to start with the easier one - the auto driver(Shakib Anna), We will ask him if we can
wear his clothes and make a staged image of how we performs to be an auto driver. This is the
rst Mme both of us to perform this job so our reacMons will probably be surprised, uncomfortable
and unsure. And it will be beVer if we would capture all those reacMons in a single frame - and sMll
expect more and varied reacMons in doing this and be open to portray whatever comes our way.
