Course Description
Algebra is a course designed to explore and extend the knowledge of expressions, equations,
functions, inequalities, and different representations of math relationships. The course will help each
student be prepared to be successful in future math classes and on future math assessments. The
following will be learned in each section:

Algebra 1A:

Algebra 1B:

Numbers & Measurement

Expressions, Equations, and Functions
Linear Equations
Linear Functions

Equations of Linear Functions

Linear Inequalities
Systems of Linear Equations
Systems of Linear Inequalities

The course will follow the CCSSs (Common Core State Standards) found at this website:
http://www.corestandards.org/assets/CCSSI_Math%20Standards.pdf
The CCSSs focus on developing the following Mathematical practices for every student:
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Classroom Expectations
Come to Class Ready to Learn Assignments are completed BEFORE class begins, Bring your
materials (math notebook, math folder, ChromeBook, pencils/pens/whiteboard markers, Come to
class with a positive attitude willing and ready to participate and interact during the class period,
Get going
Right Away
(in your seat, stuff out, begin the FIRST THINGS task)
Do your assignments on time. If you are absent, use the Agenda Page on Moodle to see what you
missed and to find worksheets/notes/handouts. For paper quizzes and tests, see me to arrange a
makeup time.
I am here to help. Be responsible for your learning. Work hard. Ask questions when you dont
understand. Take the time to think; learning and mastery can require different amounts of time for
each individual and concept. Help yourself so I can help you.

Grading Policy
Grades will be updated and posted every Thursday and most Tuesdays on Student/Parent Portal.
This is available for students and parents to see so that each student will know how they are
currently achieving in math class. Parents must sign up for this in the High School office to receive a
username and password.
The final grade will be determined by a percentage distribution based upon the grades each
student earns throughout the trimester. The students grade is based on the following criteria:
GRADE DISTRIBUTION:
Tests = 80%
Quizzes = 10%
Assignments = 10%
Tests will be given after each Chapter/Unit and will be announced ahead of time so
students can prepare. Tests may not be retaken.
Quizzes will be given often (one to two times per week). The quizzes will be a reflection of
assignments if a student completes and understands the assignments, the student should
be prepared for quizzes. Quizzes may be retaken once before the Chapter test if study
material is
shown.
Homework will be given daily. Homework is due at the beginning of the class period and is
graded in class, it will be entered into the gradebook once each Chapter/Unit. The
homework in this class is very important to the mastery of the subject. At times homework will
be for the student to write notes that will be essential for learning the next lesson. These notes
will include examples of problems relating to assignments. The student and parent can refer
back to these notes as a great way to help with assignments.
Extra Assistance:
Extra Assistance begins with the student. I cant help someone who doesnt want help. My door is
always open to all students who need extra clarification or guided practicenever hesitate to ask
for help!!! I will do my best to work with students and give them opportunities to get extra help.
Success Center is available to all students on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the HS Media Center from
2:45 to 4:00pm with a bus that takes the students home. This can be a great opportunity to work in
a study environment with a math teacher available if the students need help or have questions.
Supplies you will need
Notebook, a big one
Folder to keep assignments, handouts, etc. in
Pencils
Grading pen
Whiteboard markers
