Basketball Camp: Boys Mitch Fiegel

If you are interested in a real basketball camp, then Coach Fiegel has just the
camp for you. We have one primary goal in our camps and that is to prepare
you to be successful as a basketball player. We focus on three areas to make that
happen: fundamentals, attitude, and work ethic. We want every young man who
leaves our camp to have a total and complete understanding of what it takes to
be successful in the game of basketball.
In the past twenty-seven years, Coach Fiegel has won five State Championships
(1993, 1996, 2007, 2009, and 2010). His TEAMS have also finished second in
1998 and 2015 as well as third in 1994 and 2011. Overall his TEAMS have made
twelve State Tournament appearances. In 2007 and 2010, he was chosen by the
Wichita Eagle as Metro Coach of the Year and All-State Coach of the Year as well.
When you think about what camp to choose for your son this summer, ask yourself these questions:
1. Do you want a tough and challenging camp for your son?
2. Is twenty-seven years of summer camp experience important to you?
3. Do you want your son to work harder than he has ever worked and have fun
while he is doing it?
4. Do you, at some point, hope that your son will be a high school player on
a great TEAM?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then this is the camp for you. We are committed to providing a challenging and instructional experience for your son. Every
player will receive a basketball report card to evaluate his current skill level and a camp
T-shirt, with the exception of the shooting camp which is instruction only. Each session will be limited to thirty campers, so enroll earlysessions fill up quickly, and we
are committed to the thirty-camper limit to ensure quality instruction. Please contact
Coach Fiegel (771-2227 or mfiegel@wcsks.com) with any questions you may have.

camp things: swimming, cooking out on a camp fire, canoe trips, arts and crafts,
having treats, horseback riding, games And a lot of not-so-traditional things,
such as feeding and caring for snakes and hamsters; studying ecosystems and
astronomy; competing in science challenges; building woodworking and electronics projects. Fun off-campus trips will include canoeing down the Fall River,
visiting the Oklahoma salt flats, going to Laser Quest, the Alley, Ice Skating,
Tanganyika, the Sedgwick County Zoo, and All-Star Adventures. Kids often say

The focus of the program will be on developing overall body strength, learning
proper lifting technique, improved jumping ability, agility, speed improvement,
and core strength. A variety of exercises and drills will be used over the 9-week
program. The participants age, experience, and limitations will be used when designing the participants workouts. The girls will be divided up into groups based
on age and experience. Completion of two summers of this class will fulfill the
Wichita Collegiate Upper School physical education requirement. Students will
work out 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). This session is for all female students in grades 9 -12 during the 2016-2017 school year.

Summer Strength & Speed Training Grades 6-8 Troy Black

All classes will be taught in the state-of-the-art Lattner Center located on the west
side of the Upper School. Some sessions will take place on the turf or track at Spartan
Stadium located just to the east of the Beren Middle School. The summer staff of
Troy Black, Mike Gehrer, Jaclyn Weber, Cam Clark, and others have many years of
proven experience and knowledge. The curriculum and techniques, like the training center, are state-of-the-art and are presented in a positive, uplifting environment.
Each session has a curriculum molded to the skill sets and abilities of the students.
This program is for students, boys and girls, who will be in the 6th, 7th, or 8th
grade during the 2016-2017 school year. Students will learn proper techniques
for certain weight lifting and running exercises. When they work with weights,
they will use weight that is appropriate for their age and experience. The repetitions will be appropriate for the students age (high reps, the range will be 10-15
reps). They will also be instructed on how to work on their strength by using other
implements such as medicine balls and their own body weight. The students will
work on form running, speed and agility drills, plyometric drills, and core exercises. Stretching and flexibility will be daily staples in our program. The focus of
this program is to introduce the students to the weight room, get them ready for
their upcoming sport season, provide them with the opportunity to improve their
physical conditioning level, a variety of ways to work on strength and speed, and
get them excited about training. We know that these students are still growing, so
the whole focus is on technique, and improving their speed, agility, quickness, and
conditioning level. For more information, please email tblack@wcsks.com.

Youth Speed, Agility, and Quickness

Troy Black

This program will be under the guidance of Coach Troy Black, Coach Mike
Gehrer, Cam Clark, and Jaclyn Weber. Coach Black and Coach Gehrer have
been coaching speed and strength training for 28 years. Cam Clark is the head
trainer at Newman University and Wichita Collegiate School. Jaclyn Weber is
the girls strength coach for female athletes at WCS. The program will run for
6 weeks, starting on June 13 and running through July 21. The class is for kids
going into the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, both boys and girls. All classes are held
in the Lattner Center located at the Upper School.
Science has proven that ages 711 are the most critical years in a childs life for
motor skill development. Our program utilizes the most up-to-date research
in a fun and friendly environment to build the young athletes physical skills.
Through our youth speed training, youth agility training, and youth sports performance training technique, kids will improve coordination and selfesteem.
Every athlete will go through an evaluation process to assess strengths and weaknesses in areas such as speed, agility, and coordination, which will allow them
to be grouped accordingly. After this first evaluation, the child will be placed in
groups based upon performance level and age. All the drills and activities will
be age and skill appropriate. The programs goal is to improve the following areas: coordination / agility, running technique, body weight, strength, first step
quickness, flexibility, injury prevention, weight loss, and self confidence. Coach
Gehrer and Coach Black highly recommend this program for any youth athletes
no matter the sport they participate in, as it will help get them in shape as well as
improve their speed and agility for the upcoming or current season. For more
information, please email tblack@wcsks.com.
