3 When faced with new challenges, the student demonstrated adequate critical thinking skills.
Strongly Agree
4 Please describe at least one example of how this student identified and solved challenges in the
work place.
Kelly quickly learned how fixturing a part can affect the results as much as the test
itself. She would always ensure her set-ups were robust and provided consistent
results. If not she would take the time to rethink her approach.
Kelly quickly realized that understanding Geometric Design and Tolerancing
(GD&T) would be an important part of her job. She took the initiative to
complete a quite extensive on-line course in the subject and became proficient in
understanding the use of GD&T on Engineering drawings very quickly
5 During this co-op, what did you see as particularly challenging for this student, and how did
he/she address it/them, if at all?
Quite frankly I was concerned about the long commute Kelly was going to have.
Turned out to be a non-issue. She arrived promptly every day and viewed the
commute as part of her job. Her initiative and work ethic are exceptional.

Another concern I have with all co-ops is how they deal with the mechanical and
design engineers when results are questioned. This did happen when someone
questioned failing results on a part that was tested previously and had passed
testing. Kelly was very confident in her results, and worked with the engineer to set
up the test again to run both sets of samples using the same set-up and program.
Her results were confirmed and samples the supplier was currently sending were
not within specifications.
6 During this co-op, the student behaved in a professional manner (e.g., punctual, dressed
appropriately).
Strongly Agree

Comment:
Kelly has an easy going personality and established very good working
relationships with all of the engineering staff she came in contact with. She has
excellent communication skills and interacted with here customers and co-workers
in a very professional and respectful manner.
7 The student refrained from using their cell phone and/or social media for personal use (e.g.,
texting, personal phone calls, Facebook, Twitter).

Comment:
Kelly's work ethic was second to none. At work she was focused and demonstrated

unsurpassed excitement and enthusiasm for the task at hand. She worked many
long hours to help us catch up on our backlog in the lab. This was exemplary and
deeply appreciated.
8 The student reacted to constructive criticism from their supervisor(s) and/or colleague(s) in a
professional manner (e.g., listened to the criticism, reflected on it, and changed their
work/behavior if necessary).
Strongly Agree

Comment:
Kelly took time to listen to questions and concerns from our engineering customers
and asked very intuitive questions in reponse when necessary. She would always
ask if she questions. When alternate methods were suggested to prove out her test
results, she was very willing to listen and learn.

Kelly was clear, concise, and accurate with all her reports to her customers. She
explained details of her measurement techniques in notes and sketches along with
the report. Her attention to detail and consistent results instilled a feeling of
confidence from her co-workers.

Please select five primary roles and responsibilities of the student on this co-op. Then,
please identify how much time the student spent performing the work-related activities
you listed. (Please note that these are approximations and do not have to total 100% of
the students time at work.)

24 Research/field research (e.g., collecting samples, data entry, data analysis, coding, gathering
data, interviews, literature reviews, observations)
Majority of their time (approximately 61-80%)
25 Training/professional development (e.g., learning new software, skills)
A little bit of my time (approximately 1%-20%)
26 Quality Assurance/Control/Testing
Majority of their time (approximately 61-80%)
27 Technical and Feasibility Studies/Analyses
A little bit of my time (approximately 1%-20%)
28 Laboratory Testing/Analysis/Material Characterization
A little bit of my time (approximately 1%-20%)
29 Have the students primary roles and responsibilities changed since the start of their co-op?
No
30 Does the job description that the student applied for adequately represent the work that the
student actually did?
No

Comment:
Kelly worked in the Design Assurance Engineering (DAE) Metrology Lab,
performing hands-on mechanical measurement of various parts and fixtures using
sophisticated tools and gages including touch probe, optical, and laser coordinate
measuring machines (CMMs) She also wrote technical reports with results of
measurement findings. She supported all divisions within Bose Research and
Development (R&D) and interacted with all levels design engineers and
technicians. An understanding of new product development through manufacturing
release was gained.
31 On average, did the student work the number of hours expected?
Yes

Comment:
Kelly worked much more hours than expected. That was a good thing. We were very
busy, she had the time and initiative, so it worked very well for both parties.
32 As the students direct supervisor, the student and I discussed his/her learning
outcomes/goals.
Yes
33 As the students direct supervisor, the student and I discussed his/her roles and responsibilities
for this job.
Yes
34 If you, as the direct supervisor, and the student discussed the learning outcomes/goals, when
during the co-op did this conversation FIRST take place?
Within the first two weeks of co-op

op.

35 Learning Outcome 1: At the end of co-op, I will complete the SolidWorks and the
Fundamentals of GD&T ASM Y14.5-2009: training courses. I will have enough knowledge about
dimensioning and tolerances to complete a job without any assistance. In addition, with the skills I
learn in the SolidWorks training, Ill be able to produce part drawings to practice GD&T rules.
Fully achieved
36 Learning Outcome 2: At the end of co-op, Ill be able to thoroughly understand all the
machinery and tools in the lab. I will be able to explain the purpose of the metrology lab and the
relation to product development. By the end of co-op, I will be able to know if Im interested in a
career in Metrology.
Fully achieved
37 Learning Outcome 3: At the end of co-op, I will be able to write my own part programs and
determine any issues on my own. I will be able not only to create my own programs, but also edit
and adjust existing programs to fit the needs of the project at hand.

43 Please explain your responses regarding the students potential, professional future, and
recommendations.
Kelly was a fast learner, self-starter, and highly motivated. She has excellent
computer and math skills, 3D visualization, as well as superior interpersonal skills.
She quickly learned the use of the measurement and test equipment in the lab. She
asked inquisitive and well thought out questions in regards to testing and test
equipment operation. She intuitively learned programming of the Coordinate
measuring machines, as well as optical and laser measurement equipment. She
took full responsibility for the projects she worked on. By rapidly learning the
operation of the equipment and the ability to work independently helped our lab
satisfy all our customer needs efficiently. It is a pleasure to work with someone of
this caliber. I would recomend Kelly for any future employment considerations.
44 Overall, how satisfied were you with this co-op student?
Completely satisfied
45 How many times did you discuss the students overall job performance with the student?
1 - 2
46 Did you, as the direct supervisor, discuss with this student your evaluation of their overall
performance?
Yes
47 Is there anything else you would like to tell us about this co-op student?
Kelly was a great asset to have in the Metrology Lab at Bose. In a very short time,
she learned and retained far more than was expected. She was able to take on some
of the most complex jobs that came through the lab. She continually surprised us
