Web 2.0 Tool #1

Free Audio and Audible Books

Web Address: http://www.freeaudiobooks.ws/2009/07/free-audio-booksfor-kids.html
or click the link HERE.
Purpose: The purpose of this web tool is to assist students with reading,
interpreting, and understanding what they are reading. It supports all
students, however, also targets English-language learners, learningdisabled students, and struggling or uninterested readers. Audiobooks
teach critical listening, encourages students to follow along, provide a
read-aloud for the child, introduce new vocabulary, and encourage
students to listen and learn from higher level books. The website
includes the most popular, classic stories for children, but also suggests
that if you cannot find a book through a search, they will do their best to
locate it for you.
short description of how it could be used in education: Since our schools
are becoming increasingly diverse, our classrooms will not only range in
abilities, but also cultures. It will be our job as teachers to help reach
every student and guide their learning on a path to success. That being
said, reading is a necessary skill that needs to be taught, reinforced, and
encouraged in every classroom. With the help of audiobooks, the diverse
learners will be able to sit down, listen, and better comprehend material.
As mentioned above, it will provide an opportunity for children to build a
wide range of vocabulary and help with fluency.

Short description of how this tool could remove or reduce barriers for
certain learners: Reducing barriers means eliminating or limiting
challenges for students and making learning easier. This tool will allow
students who struggle with reading a chance to listen and interpret
information differently. Since language barriers are also a topic of
discussion with the increasing Syrian Refugees and other potential
immigrants, a tool that reads books in english will help these students
interpret and become familiar with the language.
Statement about the required age of users, if any, according to the tools
terms of service: As far as the web tool goes, there is nothing mentioning
age restrictions. However, please use your discretion when selecting a
story or a novel.

Web 2.0 Tool #2

Make a Book
Web Address: http://www.blurb.com
or Click the link HERE.
Purpose: The purpose of this tool is to turn your ideas into a book for
others to view. The ideas can be turned into print books, magazines, or
ebooks for iPads and kindles. This can be used for both teachers and
students. In terms of teachers, this tool can be utilized to support
different lessons, themes, or subjects throughout the year. For students,
this resource offers an opportunity to express thoughts and ideas
through stories or books via internet. Students can create photo books,
magazines, comic books, or portfolios to display project or research
information as shown below:

Short description of how it could be used in education: As talked about,

this web 2.0 tool could be used to display information through
constructing and creating books. Projects could be assigned where
students could translate their knowledge and understanding of course
content into an online book that can be retrieved through iPads, Kindles,
or Print books. This website should be used in Junior High or High School
if students are creating books, however, it would be a great way to
display information to students in Elementary Schools from a teachers
perspective.
Short description of how this tool could remove or reduce barriers for
certain learners: This tool could enhance learning by offering students
an opportunity to express what they know through book form. Instead of
presenting in other forms that may intimidate or discourage students, it
gives children a chance to work with technology and illustrate their ideas
in a book. It is a fun and engaging way to incorporate online resources in
a classroom setting.
Statement about the required age of users, if any, according to the tools
terms of service: Under the terms and conditions it states that in order to
use this tool you must be thirteen years of age or older which means that
this tool could be implemented for students in Junior High and High
School.

Web 2.0 Tool #3

ePals
Website Address: http://www.epals.com/#/connections
or Click the link HERE.
Purpose: The purpose of this tool is to connect, collaborate, and
communicate with educators around the world. It promotes global
connections between students from different climates, cultures, or areas
around us.
Short description of how it could be used in education: This tool could be
used as a project or assignment in social studies to learn about cultures,
lifestyles, and ways of life in other parts of the world. It gives students
the chance to talk with students similar in age and allows for them to
understand life across our globe. Students gain a better perspective of
countries when they are able to connect with people or students who live
within it.
9

Short description of how this tool could remove or reduce barriers for
certain learners: This tool could reduce barriers by giving students the
opportunity to understand and become familiar with different cultures
and religions. It is an opportunity to educate our students through a
network and gives them a chance to talk one on one with people who live
in other areas. This resource will build acceptance among classrooms
and promote a multicultural, diverse environment.

terms of service: The web tool states under the terms and conditions that
you represent and warrant that you are of legal age to form a binding
