My concentration focuses on deindividuation which is defined as the diminishing of one's

sense of individuality that occurs because of external pressures. My curiosity has held
me to study the theory of deindividuation due to my interest in both psychology and art.
I challenged myself to have my art relate to people that are struggling with their identity
and expressing the related emotion. My concentration follows a chronological order of a
person slowly losing their identity.

I capture this emotion in my art through creating careful dripping patterns and abstract
facial masks. The dripping patterns represent people conflicted with their emotions,
intricate patterns symbolizing overwhelming thoughts and ideas, and masked faces
because of fading away identities that can no longer be defined.
My work primarily uses watercolor, ink, and some experimentation with techniques in
order to enhance what I am trying to portray in my artwork. I create abstract faces that
utilize bold color, clean lines, and patterns. These techniques help establish the idea of
my concentration in my work.

The dripping technique is strongly exemplified in pictures 1 and 12. This is because the
intensity and amount of drips between pictures 1 and 12 shows that the persons identity
has diminished by the end since more of the face is masked. Clean lines and pattern are
used in every picture of my portfolio, picture 4 is a great example. Patterns served as a
mask for this girl as she is unable to define her identity and how she should look. The
lines in the background symbolize the chaotic pressures around her causing her to
succumb to deindividuation.
