The modified yoga sequences suggested here will allow you to improve

self
organization, to correct your posture, and to alleviate pain, stress, and
fatigue. They are
to be used as a resource to increase stability, proper alignment, energy,
independence,
and self-awareness. These sequences should be conducted under the
guidance of a senior
teacher, and with medical supervision.
People are smart. They adapt quite readily to exercises and find ways to
do them while altering
their usual posture and stance as little as possible. There are numerous
occasions on
which patients have returned after 2 weeks and showed us how they
perform an exercise
designed to ward off increasing lordosis, in a manner that increases
lordosis. One must
observe and update the asana when dealing with a wily species such
as ourselves.
There is one other matter that we should consider. Because scoliosis is a
medical condition,
it should be monitored by a physician. This is helpful for judging what
other conditions
might be limiting the patients ability to recover symmetry, such as
radiculopathy (pinched
nerve roots), hip or sacroiliac joint abnormalities, or neuromuscular or
cerebrovascular
conditions. Even anemia can limit a patients ability to put a full effort into
the asanas that
are wisely prescribed.
In addition, the physician
Establish a space for practice or teaching that supports the inner
engagement of the
mind. Ideally, it should be clean, quiet, and without distractions. Organize
all the
props in a suitable place, and when you finish the practice, put the props
back so you
can start fresh the next time. For scoliosis, it is imperative to have
external organization,
and that begins with the environment.
