1. Scope:
This procedure describe the requirement to carrying out the liquid Penetrant
inspection activity (open to surface defects) for the piping, during the execution of
AMMONIA UREA ENPC PROJECT.

2. References code:

AD 2000- Merkblatt.

3. Personnel:
The personal for the examination / supervision shall fulfill the requirements according to
standard EN-473 or equivalent (Qualified and Certified according To ASNT- TC -1A
(LEVEL II))

4. Technique:Solvent Removable Technique

5. Equipment:5.1 Color Contrast Solvent Removable Penetrant Kits.


5.2 Wet Non Aqueous Developer Kits.
5.3 Solvent Cleaner Kits.
5.4 Dry Clothes For Wiping.
5.5 Calibrated Light Meter
5.6 Stop Watch
The Identification of Any Change in Type or Family Group of Penetrant Materials Including
Developer, Emulsifiers, Etc. shall be used as per the following table.

When used for tests on nickel base alloys, the sulfur content shall not exceed 1% of the

6.1 Pre Examination Cleaning:Solvent Cleaning (Allow 5 Min for Solvent Evaporation before Application)

7. Application
shall be as follow: 7.1 Method Of Applying Penetrant:Spraying (as per the manufacture recommendation)

7.2

Method Of Removing Excess Surface Penetrant:

By wiping with a cloth or absorbent paper, repeating this operation until


most traces of penetrant have been removed.

Cleaning the surface from excess penetrant by flushing solvent is


prohibited
Drying after penetrant removal (for the solvent removable technique)
may be by normal evaporation, blotting, wiping or forced air

7.3

Penetrant Dwelling Time

The dwelling time shall be according to the manufacturer recommends, (if it isn't
available) then the following time limits shall be use.
Minimum dwelling time of Penetrant is 10 min.

Maximum dwelling time of Penetrant is 20 min.

If the Penetrant allowed to dry during the examination the part must be re-cleaned
and the examination to be repeated.

7.4

Method of Applied Developer.

Spraying (as per the manufacture recommendation)

Developer dwelling Time

The dwelling time shall be accordance with the manufacturer recommends; (if it isn't
available) then the developer minimum dwelling time shall be 7 min.
Developer shall be applied lightly.

If necessary additional developer may be add to aide in interpretation.

Final interpretation shall be done within 7 to 30 min. of applying


developer

7.6

Lighting Requirements.

Either natural or artificial light however the minimum permissible lighting intensity
at the examination site is (350 LUX)

Surface Temperature

The recommendations of the manufacture to be followed .

8. Post cleaning
Post cleaning shall be achieved by wipe surface with dry cloth, flush surface with an
approved solvent cleaner. Wipe as required a clean cloth an/or observant toilet paper
