Observation Tasks 5 and 6: Different learning

styles and
differentiation
Focus: On the learner.
The first week you will observe a lower level learner. The second
week you will observe a higher level learner.
Objective: For student teachers to gain an initial understanding of how learners
are different.

For this observation, you will begin by observing


the class for 1 hour.
1. What do you notice? Does the class have any strengths or weaknesses?
Yes, the teacher doesnt forget

2. Are there learners who finish activities quickly? What do they do when they
have finished?
Yes, she gives them extra work and went to next activity. For example, today the theme was
about Flowers when high level learners finish the teacher told them to draw and wrote
flower.

3. Are there learners who do not finish a task(s)? How does the teacher deal
with them?
Yes, a lower level learner gives them extra time.

4. Are there any learners with special needs? How does the teacher meet their
needs?
No.

5. How does the teacher manage learners with different levels/abilities?

She do different activities to each level.


When you have made your notes, ask the teacher to help
you choose a lower level or a higher level learner in the
class.
Observe one of the learners for the rest of the day and
make notes.

2. How did s/he interact with the other learners throughout the day?
Talking with them and asking for help from her friends.
3. What was the longest period of time the learner spent focusing on one
activity?
When she wrote words and she has difficulty in pronunciation of the letters
which makes the teacher sitting with him longer time.
4. What did the learner do during the break times?
Playing with the kids in the playground
5. What did the learners attention span / interest during activities seem like?
Pay much attention to playing. When the activities being she move directly
to drama area and never go to reading or mathematics area. She dont
interest in activities because it is not fun and trivially.
6. What did the learner seem to like doing the most / least during the day?
She is a very quiet girl. Do not talk too much with the teacher, but does
not find difficulty to talk with her friends. I realized that Afra play with
her nails when the teacher teach during the day.
