ESTIMATE & SPACE COMPARISION

To investigate the cost aspect and the space requirements of precast concrete materials, a
simple ground floor building has been taken as shown in Fig 7.1 The estimated cost in situ with
prevailing rates in the city with the help of contractors working in the same field has been taken.
But for precast housing, it was new experience for all and hence relevant information was not
available from the contractors.

Gave all the details but somehow they could not

gave the details pertaining to cost.

7.1 Cost Summary

Rate of cast in-situ per sq. ft.

Rs. 286.78 / one unit

Rate of precast per sq. ft.

Rs. 279.20 / one unit

For mass production

Rs. 225.89 / one unit

The cost of one unit of precast is quite less, but if mass housing project is considered then
the rate of precast may also be decreased. Anyhow precast is economical on the basis of survey.
The quality & construction speed is also excellent but the investments behind such projects are
very high.
Same way comparison of estimation for multi-storey and other projects can be done but
because of the lack of information and as prestressing is required in such projects, the project is
restricted to ground floor structure only.
