-Have all students grab one of each letter card as they enter the
room (have letters out for students)
Introduction:

Start
1. Take 2 letters and make the word at. Repeat sentence:
Come over at 2 oclock.
2. Now add the e and spell ate. Repeat Sentence: I ate a
cheeseburger.
3. Now take away the e and add an r to the beginning to
make rat. Repeat Sentence: The rat ran under the house.
4. Change the first letter to spell mat. Repeat Sentence: Wipe
your feet on the mat.
5. Now add the magic e to the end to make mate. Repeat
Sentence: The bear is looking for his mate.
6. Change the first letter to spell rate. Repeat Sentence: How
would you rate this movie?
7. Change one letter to spell rake. Repeat Sentence: I like to
rake the leaves.
8. Now change the r to spell take. Repeat Sentence: Please
take this home today.
9. Change the first letter to spell make. Repeat Sentence:
Lets make some cookies.
10.Now if we use all of our letters, we can reveal our secret
word, which is market. Repeat sentence: My mom goes to
the market to buy groceries.

-Ask students to use the letters on their desk and create words. As
they find words, ask students to raise their hands to put each word
on the board.
-Students get pride dollar reward when class is able to make 20
words.

This lesson is focused on differentiation of reading level groups during MTSS. This group
was a lower performing group that is still working on mastering phonemic awareness.
Class is allowed to work together as well as volunteer individual answers to reach as
many word on the final list as possible.
Focus was on different levels of MTSS/ Reading level groups. These groups were created
based on a variety of This lesson focused on mastering sounds of letters and making
words. Seeing the different combinations of letters and words helps this level of students
master all of the possible sounds that these letters can make. Also, students are asked
to create a list of words out of these letters, which can increase vocabulary as well.
Modeling- Demonstrating making/creating words for students
Scaffolding-modeling what is expected of students, eventually leading them to creating
their own words
