Summary of the Article
(No more than 3-4 sentences! Read the entire article, then summarize.)
This article was basically about the different technologies that are used to improve the lives of people with
a disability. They covered a wide range of disabilities including hearing loss and people who have
impaired use of their upper extremities.
Personal Reaction
(100-150 word minimum)
I was thrilled to read this article because I am very interested in the way that technology is shaping the
future, especially with people who have certain disabilities. The technologies that they have for people
with a hearing disorder are so immense that it fits the needs for just about anything. They spoke about a
wristband that can connect with virtually anything in your house, smoke alarms, doorbells, alarms clocks
and even ovens, and sends an alert like a light or a vibrate which tells you what is going on. They also
spoke about a speech pathologist which is the occupation I am very interested in pursuing after college. I
also would like to major in some sort of assistive technology and help make a new design for a
communication device like what was mentioned in the article. Finally they talked about technology making
it easier to pursue an education. I would love to see modified technologies come out like computers or
speaking devices to help disabled students in school.
