COUNCILMEMBER, COPS AND COMMUNITY COLLABORATE TO CURTAIL SPEEDING

San Diego, CA: On Thursday, February 18th at 11:30 a.m., San Diego City Councilmember Chris
Cate, in partnership with the San Diego Police Department and Sorrento Valley Town Council
will be unveiling a new, state-of-the-art speed trailer in Sorrento Valley.
The new speed trailer is solar powered, therefore self-charging, and will be able to be deployed
for longer periods of time. Equipped with new technology, the speed trailer will capture the
average speed and car count data for further evaluation to help determine if permanent traffic
calming measures are warranted.
Speeding is dangerous. Several incidents ranging from hit-and-runs to pedestrian injuries have
recently occurred in District 6. The speed trailers will serve as friendly reminders to residents
to slow down and put the safety of their fellow neighbors, first, stated Councilmember Chris
Cate.
These new tools will be a huge help to our officers who want to ensure the safest conditions
possible for our residents, said Captain Stephanie Rose.
