A Comparison of Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Conventional Vehicle Using ADVISOR 2004

Abstract:
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) appear to be one of the viable solutions for the
growing concerns for environmental protection and the fast rate of depletion of word oil
supply. HEVs provide a significant potential to reduce fuel consumption and at the same
time, satisfy customer acceptance constraints. In this paper, the operation of Internal
Combustion Engine (ICE) is discussed. The fuel consumption and emission details of HEV
and Conventional Vehicle (CV) under various driving cycles are compared using ADVISOR
2004 software. The simulation results are discussed.
Keywords:

Introduction
The global population is expected to increase from 6 billion to 10 billion within next
fifty years. Accordingly the number of vehicles will also increase from 700 million to 2.5
billion. The use of ICEs for all the vehicles will lead to oil crisis and atmospheric
degradation. On the other hand the renewable energy sources are abundant and pollution free.
Thus there is an imperative need to develop technologies which helps to penetrate a higher
percentage of renewable energy sources in the vehicles.
Electric Vehicle (EV) is s road vehicle that employs a modern electric propulsion
system. HEV is one type of EV.
