Psychology 101: Introduction to Psychology

Course Description:
This course studies the multifaceted discipline of psychology and explores the scientific study of human
behavior and mental processes. More specifically, this course will cover: the history of psychology, theoretical
perspectives, biological and environmental basis for behavior, research methodology, sensation and
perception, memory, intelligence, learning, personality, emotion, motivation, stress and psychopathology.

Student Learning Outcomes:


Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
SLO 1: Articulate the similarities and difference among the major psychological theories and identify key historical
figures, empirical findings and current psychological trends.
SLO 2: Identify, understand, and apply the different research methods in psychology and be able to analyze and interpret
research results.
SLO 3: Investigate the concepts of memory, learning, intelligence, sensation and perception.
SLO 4: Recognize the symptoms of various psychological disorders and interpret the causes of these disorders.
SLO 5: Apply relevant concepts, theories and research to personal, social, and organizational issues and propose solutions
for a variety of real-life problems.
Note: The above 5 SLOs are a slight revision from the syllabus attached with my eportfolio.
